Sarah Palin To Be Given Huge Engraved Assault Rifle

First Posted: 05/24/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

Palin

A custom firearms manufacture plans to give Sarah Palin a smokin' gift at a May banquet of the National Rifle Association, according to RedState.

NRA members, keep an eye out for your copy of May's American Rifleman, if it hasn't already arrived. According to the latest edition of the magazine, Bob Reynolds, gunsmith and owner of Templar Consulting LLC, will make a special presentation at the NRA Foundation Banquet on May 14.

It's a modified AR-15 (civilian version of the milspec M16 rifle), specially customized in honor of Gov. Sarah Palin and dubbed "The Alaskan Hunter."

The gift is an assault rifle custom-engraved with the image of a moose, the Big Dipper, a map of Alaska, and the words "In Honor of Governor Sarah Palin."

The governor could really mow down a moose with this thing, or perhaps spray several wolves from a helicopter, or, say, terrify one Levi Johnston.

Check it out:

UPDATE: A reader writes to say that I mixed up "assault rifle" and "assault weapon" -- while Palin's modified AR-15 would fit the legal definition of an assault weapon, it's not an assault rifle unless it's got "selective fire" capability -- meaning it can switch between fully automatic firing and semi-automatic firing.

That's all Sarah was lacking, a really big gun. Where is Freud when you need him?

I wonder if she will keep it. If she does, she will have to claim it for the dollar value and pay income tax on it. Or, she can allow it to be property of Alaska much like our federal elected officials do when presented gifts that then are property of the US Archives.

She's a barbarian. She has barbarian friends. Why shouldn't they barter in the kind of currency they understand: guns and political influence (or the semblance thereof)?

The .50 Beowulf round in Sarah's Big Gun is, in effect, a BIG pistol round, for short range Defensive use. This cartridge is TOTALLY unsuited to shoot wolves from a helicopter. No knowledgeable hunter would choose this round for helicopter shooting. It would, however, be a great choice to shoot down the helicopter, if the wolf was desiring to shoot back.

It would not be all that great against the helicopter either. Slightly better than a .45 ACP. The standard .223 Remington cartridge would do better.

Thats the proud image of PTA Mom that I want my kids to look up to.

How do we tell a first grader it is not OK to make a gun gesture with your hand and then honor our elected officials with semi-automatic rifles.

And we wonder how Columbines happen.

Making gun gestures with hands had squat to do with why Columbine happened.

Why is it not OK for a first grader to make a gun gesture with their hand? To me, that's the bigger issue. I grew up making gun gestures with my hand and I managed to not shoot up any of my schools.

Are parents so incompetent these days that they can't teach their children the difference between play and reality? Or is it that today's child is biologically inferior to those of the past?
06:58 PM on 04/26/2009
Neither. It's that kid's are inundated by evidence that violence solves problems. Thanks to news and video games, they have been numbed to the consequences of things like gun use. When they make a gun with their hand it means something different than it did to you and me. And because of that, it's not ok.

She may have to return it... ETHICS

Yes .... I'm guessing that ethics figures prominently in every decision Gov. Palin makes.

Return It? This woman who thought Scruples was a fruity drink and said she didn't want any?
09:47 PM on 04/24/2009
What is this tribute for? Is it for setting an example of how an elected public official should behave always lying and deceiving? Or is it constantly whining and complaining that everyone but herself is responsible for her problems? Or is it that she didn't have the ability to prevent her own teenage daughter from becoming pregnant? Is it the scandals of her 12 ethics violations, or is it for snubbing the Alaskan legislature at the most critical time in session, or is it refusing 100's of millions of dollars of stumulus funds to provide special needs programs and other much needed programs for the people of her state? Is it charging the state to live at home, while governing or travelling first class on official business and taking her univited family along? Is it pardoning a turkey, while others were being slaughtered in the background?

What about her has made her such a hero to some? Was it blaming the media and bloggers, anonymous or otherwise, for all of her failures? Is it for making egregious comments about her grandson's father, thereby causing irreparable damage to this child? Is it the fact that Sarah Palin will do everything she wants, whenever she wants, however she wants, without considering the consequences of her damaging behavior. Or is it simply her profound stupidity, hypocrisy and mercilessly slaughtering of wolves and other wildlife in her beautiful state?

You forgot her homage to the NRA by nominating the ambulance-chasing Ross to be the next AG for the state. He's a director in the NRA and she is courting the NRA big-time for 2012 support in the lower 49. Imagine, then, the ignominy of her having the first ever state appointee rejected by the AK legislature -- though not because of the NRA affiliation. (Ross has offended women, gays and natives, none of whom Palin has shown any sympathy for.)

Given that the NRA is dominated by middle-aged white guys from the gun munitions companies, that's probably a good move on her part. (They think she's "hot", but rest of us think not.)

I am certain that opponents of not prohibiting concealed deadly weapons on college campuses can cite that not imposing such a prohibition demonstrably leads to an increase in violent incidences from individuals who legally carry concealed deadly weapons when on college campuses by citing statistics of such incidents from campuses where no such prohibition exists (either due to force of state law or due to the college choosing not to impose such a prohibition). Curiously, however, they have yet to provide such information when I have requested it.

That rifle is going to in her home. Hope they have gun locks on their cabinets. I'd hate to see Piper showing a friend, "this real cool gun my mom got from some people". She probably knows better than to keep it loaded.

But curious kids can load guns.

That rifle is more than likely going to belong to the state and never be in her home. However, she already has firearms in the home and is probably quite aware of and taking measures to keep her family safe.
08:15 AM on 04/25/2009
Cheney was "probably quite aware" that hunting drunk is not a good idea and also probably quite certain that if anything went wrong when he did hunt drunk that it would all be swept under the rug.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but there is no way you can hunt moose with that. Wolves, maybe. But definitely not moose.

Chase a moose for long enough on your snowmobile and you can knock it over with a peashooter.

"you can knock it over with a peashooter"

And the standard AR15 is a peashooter. Or as it is often called, a mouse gun.

While the AR-15 platform is usually found in .223 Remington, that particular rifle is chambered in .50 Beowulf.
