With numbers like these, it's obvious why Texas Gov. Rick Perry is talking secession in the runup to what will be a tough primary battle against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson...

As a Texan, a Republican, and one of the 55% of the Texans who did NOT want Obama to be elected president, most of you are just plain idiots. I am not a rich person. I am just morally and fiscally conservative. Calling someone rethuglican show your pathetic infantile mentality. I didn't call you democraps...but maybe I should have.

Texas secession (or threat thereof) is merely a rheorical means of expressing discontent. This can be compared to the Impeach Bush stickers the llberals proudlly displayed on their cars. The funny thing about that is that most people don't even realize that impeach means bring to trial not remove from office.

At any rate, secession is not a viable option, if it were I'd join the cause because I do not like the way the USA is heading. I think it is headed down the path of socialism. I vote the way I vote because of my mind and morals and not my money. I am an average middle-class person, Texas, conservative Republican. I am proud of it!

So if you are a Republican from Teabagistan, the odds are about even that you are, basically, anti-American.
Don't Mess with Teabagistan...... 'cause they already pretty messed.
State of shame is what they are in.

Walter WIlliams {an 'Uncle Tom' with Stockholm syndrome according to Janine Garafalo} wrote an excellent article that most of you would not comprehend. There is plenty that Texas could and SHOULD do long before secession becomes necessary. {or ANY State for that matter} Any law, program or mandate that the Federal Government {the 'BORG'} passes down that is unconstitutional can simply be ignored, and treated as null and void with no force of law. Nearly every state reserved that right in their found founding documents. Its not just Texas.

Oh and BTW... if Kinky Friedman is elected Governor, I might move there. If they do secede I would venture a guess that you hateful lefties will call it C.R.O.T.C.H {Cowboy Republic of Texan C####'s and Hillbillies}.

Name one unconstitutional thing Obama has done. Name one right you have lost.

I don't understand how you nutcases equate rich people paying high taxes with a loss of freedom. Sweden is ranked as the most democratic and most free nation on Earth, and their taxes, particularly for the wealthy, are quite high. They have every right and freeedom we have, but they also get free education and free healthcare, and aren't constantly held back by archaic social beliefs and religious fanatics. America should learn from Europe, Canada, New Zealand...high taxes for the rich has no impact whatsoever on rights, freedom, democracy, etc.

Texas leaving the union would be a great thing for America. It would be a huge blow to Republican presidential candidates and would allow America to make faster progress. The less influence conservatives have, the brighter the future of this country is. Losing Texas would make that happen a lot faster.

I don't think Texas is going to secede, but if it ever did come to that, if an actual real and significant majority of Texans ever supported secession, I hope our government has the sense to just let them. It is isn't worth the bloodshed to forcibly keep a state in the union that doesn't want to be there that is only holding back progress to begin with. Let them secede, but only if and when a true majority of Texans support it. I don't think that time will come, but if did, let's not throw up too big of a fuss. Overall we'd be better off.

Im all for it. Put the fence up from Louisiana to New Mexico, and let them have the rest to themselves. No support, no nothing. Give them what they want.

If Texas wasn't in the Union, JFK would have been assassinated in a foreign country and Bush would have never been President and thousands of Iraqis would be alive today.

Oh come on.
Why not just say that if there was no planet earth nothing would have ever of happened!

First of all if you think Texas should be out of the union this message is for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqwsmIdmpV0

Secondly, Gov. Perry does not speak for the 3.6 MILLION Texans that voted for President Obama.

Thirdly, Texans are AMERICANS and we are not going anywhere. We are Americans and always will be.

Fourthly, Gov. Perry got into office with only 39% of the vote. The majority of Texans did not vote for him!

Lastly, if YOU want Texas to secede then it is YOU that is unpatriotic and should move to another country and leave us alone!

This is ridiculous - it's never going to happen - it's illegal and stupid. And Americans in the other 49 states WANT Texas to stay.

But I'm tired of listening to the whiners who want to go. What a bunch of ignorant babies.

I am continually gobsmacked by the childishness of the republicans. Secede from the union because they're not getting their way?

I remember a certain summer day in my youth quite well. I disagreed with one of my mother's rules, threw a tantrum and said I was going to run away. She calmly packed a lunch and some pajamas in a grocery bag and put it in the basket of my bike. She then dragged me to my bike and my pride gave me no choice but to get on it and head off down the driveway. When I looked back, she was waving.

Took a couple of blocks for my pride to give away to the realities, as I tried to find spots that might be comfortable to sleep that night. When I walked back into the house she said "Hi honey, did you have a nice ride?" And that was that.

While I wish no one ill, literally, I can only hope that a brush with a threatening epidemic might grow these kids up fast.

I hope none of these republican secessionist advocates get the swine flu .............. The CDC with it's anti viral vaccines, is a product of the SAME Federal Government these republican secessionists want to be INDEPENDENT from.

Though I'm not from Texas, the idea of succession from the States appeals to me. Possible Slogan:
We can change
Succeed from the States
Yes we can
I like the idea of independence and I know at least thirty friends who would relocate and set up businesses.

Finally, the repuglicans are willing to do something for America, I applaud their help. This country will be so much better without them.

Yes. During the campaign there were many bloggers from Texas who made their voices heard and did everything they could to get votes for Obama. Theirs was a David against Goliath effort and should be applauded.

With my political views it would be an act of utter bravery to live in Texas, and I appreciate those who do so and remain active and involved, despite the uphill battle.

So does this make you a repuglican or what the hell are you?

Yet, now Governor Perry of Texas is asking for federal assistance in dealing with the latest flu pandemic.
Isn't it ironic.
