Torture Prevented Los Angeles Terrorist Attack? No.
DailyKos:
First of all, the background: No, Karl Rove, Marc Thiessen, and Fox News are not telling the truth when they claim that U.S. torture techniques prevented a 'west coast 9/11.'

Finally the atrocious torturing is over. I don't care if a few million innocent american lives are lost if it means not having to torture murdering terrorists. It's not who we are as a country. I don't live in a big city anyway.
I would like to know how was it possible that Mr. Cheny was out front making his case about torture a month or so before the stuff hit the fan. It only leads me to conclude that he has someone in the justice department feeding him information on the Obama administration. There is a mole in the DOJ. Mr. Holder you had better watch your back.
Everything done in the dark will be brought into the light.
George Bush Co. needs to be brought down in effigy, we can't show the Middle East that America supports his ideas; this is the best way to prevent future attacks.
oh yea it worked, if the desired result is to pour more gas on the flames in the middle east. lets give the radicals something to be upset about and recruit more people to their cause, lets legitimize their fears and beliefs of the west, that's the answer.
I'm so glad we've put and end to these practices and its becoming public. Peace and respect is the only way to end this charade.
This story was the crux to BillO the C.lowns rant about t.orture working.
Lying, P.O.S....................
New york times released the story on torture and got the official CIA documents. Now the rest of those documents need to be released.
What does it matter if more memos are released? Will that make torture legal? Torture is a crime no matter how many memos are released.
The administration says that they are going to release 2000 photos like the ones from Abu Ghraib and the republicans don't them released. What are they afraid of? If nothing wrong was done than why not release them?
Sirs and Madams,
You make the assertion the certain republicans were lying. To insinuate that it is possible for any republican is an act of treason. You can be well assured that this disingenuous display of journalist excess will warrant a full rebuttal by the likes of; Michele Steel (I am in control and where is Alexander Haig when you need him), Vlad Cheney (along with his spokeswoman Liz Cheney), Carl Rove will also attend with the sole intent of displaying righteous indignation.
Norm Coleman will count opposing responses as to make certain that all opinions are counted in full.
Of course FOX will report as "Fair and Balanced."
The DailyKos is left wing rag.
Face the truth.. republicans are LIARS, DECEITFUL, THIEVING, COWARDS.. And there followers are insecure unintelligent sheep who can never except the truth, only try to repudiate and deride the messenger.
When the WSJ tries to spin the story your leaders will tell you to except their version.
Regardless of what you think of KOS, their facts on this issue are 100% correct.
The story of an LA 9/11-style attack being foiled via torture methods is now thoroughly and factually debunked.
It was never anything more than easily disprovable Fox/right wing propaganda.
Your pals will keep throwing it out I'm sure - and those of us that care about reality and facts, will just as quickly debunk the myth that torture works.
This support for torture that's going on is sickening.
Conservatives used to think of themselves as the morally upstanding folk - this issue is really putting the lie to that myth, once and for all.
Wow I am shocked that torture did not work. After all we only have a few thousand years of evidence to show us that torture only gives you the answers you want and not the ones you need.
Obviously, they couldn't even get them to say what they wanted... No 9-11 connection to Iraq and no west coast plot.
Incompetence they couldn't even meet the accomplishment of the Vietnamese... ask John McCain, the Vietnamese got him to turn on his country.
Notice how easily Republicans resort to lying to dupe the public to get their way. This is the single biggest thing that is destroying that party--and if the more reasonable members don't get a hold on this bad habit, their party is going to be relegated to being a footnote in history.
when Dalhy Kos is taken seriously by even liberals , the iq quotient has gone below double digits here

The New York Times(10/8/05), headlined "Scope of Plots Bush Says Were Foiled Is Questioned," cited "several counter-terrorism officials" as saying that "the plot never progressed past the planning stages.... 'To take that and make it into a disrupted plot is just ludicrous,' said one senior FBI official." "At most," the story suggested, "it was a plan that was stopped in its initial stages and was not an operational plot that had been disrupted by authorities."
The Washington Post (2/10/06) cited "several U.S. intelligence officials" who "said there is deep disagreement within the intelligence community over the seriousness of the Library Tower scheme and whether it was ever much more than talk." And the New York Daily News (2/10/06) cited one senior counterterrorism official who said: "There was no definitive plot. It never materialized or got past the thought stage."

Are you saying that you actually believe the story Fox is hurling about without a fact-checker in sight?
The fact is, the dates are months out, and torture CAN NOT have had anything to do with this - which turned out to be a tempest in a teapot anyway: It amounted to some guys wanting to do it - they hadn't even bought weapons!
They foiled the wishes of guys who had INTENT ONLY, and hadn't even begun planning.
Bush had claimed victory of halting that 'attack' six months before the torture program began for a start. But there are many more issues.
I have no doubt you'll ignore any attempt to investigate whether the folk you seem to unquestioningly believe have even bothered to check whether their story is true or not.
The right are showing their desperation with this crap!
It seems the last ditch efforts are throw anything out there, and of it sticks for more than ten minutes it's seen as a win.
Pathetic.
To play politics this viciously over such an obviously immoral and illegal technique goes against everything the values of America and the civilized world stands for.
Oh, nooooo! Say it ain't sooooo!
Not the east rise, west set thing...oh, the humanity!
I'm shocked, shocked to see gambling going on in this establishment...
Whenever I hear something from Republicans, I am always 99% sure it's a lie.
Kind of like Democrats. I understand you lean to the left, so when a liberal lies, its considered truth. People need to realize that both sides and the middle lie 90%+ of the time. Government is not here for the people anymore, just themselves, friends, and votes.
"so when a liberal lies, its considered truth."
Pathetic. What rubbish - and such projection once again aimed at liberals, but reflective of how you yourself think - not us, bud.
As for your last statement: that's an ignorant, generalized and very naive statement.
Obama and the bulk of Congress and Senate are NOT there for themselves.
You may disagree with whomever is in government - but if they were truly out for themselves, the bulk of them would not be in government.
What you have said is simply a well worn cliche that is well past it's used by date.
This government has not been in long, and much of what was promised is under way - much to the chagrin of the opposition!
You may not have noticed, but the amount of people actually happy with their president and the majority of both houses and the work they're doing, is higher than it's been in over ten years.
of course it's a lie, any time cheney/rove open their mouths, it's a lie
