David Duke, Former KKK Leader, Ordered To Leave Czech Republic

PRAGUE — Czech authorities have released former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke from detention and ordered him to leave the country.

Police spokeswoman Katerina Rendlova says Duke must leave the Czech Republic by midnight Saturday after he was detained on suspicion of denying the Holocaust.

Duke was in Prague on an invitation from a neo-Nazi group to promote the Czech translation of his book "My Awakening." Police took him into custody Friday on suspicion of denying the Holocaust, which is a crime in the Czech Republic.

Prague's Charles University also banned Duke from giving a lecture there Friday. He was scheduled to give lectures over the weekend in both Prague and the country's second-largest city of Brno.

Very true. But that doesn't mean we have to agree with them. It is amazing though how many Americans take our "rights" for granted. People (including Mr. Duke) need to brush up on the laws of the countries they're visiting. That said, I don't think any gov't should be able to control what people say - no matter how vial it is. David Duke knows the truth. He just chooses to lie. Have you ever had someone lie to your face about something you absolutely knew the truth about. You know they're lying. They even know you know they're lying, and they choose to lie anyway. One of the very poignant moments in the movie Swing Kids was when the one of the Hitler youth was told the truth. Basically everything they had been lying about was in fact true. That was the whole point of the indoctrination - to get the youth so thoroughly on your side that when were told the truth it wouldn't matter. In fact, they would sell out their own mother if it would keep them as a part of the group. Interestingly, the movie was filmed in Prague. You might recognize Christian Bale.

I understand your point. I just don't agree with it. Should we bother arresting some lunatic who says that slavery never happened in this country? Would that really be necessary to prevent slavery from ever happening again? I don't think it would. That being said, the Czech Rep. ain't the US.

After 8 years of Bush telling me to "be careful" of what I say about America, I don't think restricting free speech is something you will want when your party is not the one in control. Being arrested for peaceful protest at the RNC convention in 2004 was not a fun experience - and it was all in the name of the NYPD making sure we did not incite violence.
