What do you expect both parties gave up on the people along time ago. They are out for themselves and big buisenes. Obama ran on change but nothing is different. We need to have term limits on all politicans. I wish i could do something to help. I am from NC not SC but would like to help but i live on my retirement from the navy. If soros and huffington really cared about people why are they not there helping.

South Carolina was in the hole long before Obama became President and will be in the hole long after Obama is no longer president.....so the washington post need to find another angle.....I am a native SC and I am african american so don't hang sc problems on president Obama.....in SC african americans are always the last hired and the first fired

The problem for us is that Bush, Obama, Geithner, and Summers are all following the Keynesian playbook, with Nobel laureate Paul Krugman serving as head cheerleader. If instead we just allowed the free-market process to work, the economy would likely have already bottomed; companies like AIG would be emerging from bankruptcy and the unemployment rate would be dropping instead of continuing to rise.

Like most of the comments here, what struck me most were the omissions; -

The complete failure to mention the role of the state of South Carolina and their useless governor.

Pegging events to Obama's days in the presidency is so shallow that it can only be intended to diminish his efforts.

Zero mention of the macro - situation, pre - Obama times and the hand he was dealt.

On the characters, I'm can't tell the genuine from the slanted. Not even a mention of unemployement benefits, no mention of what stimulus will be coming to Greenwood, SC, if any - Childs would probably have an idea.

WaPo, this is happening everywhere to people of all colors. Why focus on an enclave of Obama supporters? Propaganda, maybe? This economic cataclysm is the result of 28 years of Conservative rule. This includes the eight years that Bill Clinton ruled. It did not happen overnight and it will not be corrected overnight.

The poor in South Carolina are ignored - especially the black population.
SC is a very red state, and red states care nothing about poor little black children (remember the crumbling school in SC and the little schoolgirl pleading for a new school) and Republican Governor Sanford saying no to the new school and no to the stimulus money....but Republican Senator Lindsey Graham gets his new convention center in Myrtle Beach.
Republicans are shameful.

they refused money for unemployment which would have ran out then the state would be in charge look at new jersy building a skateboard park even though the city is broke, rochester expanding an art walk while laying off people. the stimulus was joke. Most of the money goes to health care and education but does not fix the problems that are wrong with both.
