I applaud you MIT. Most schools cut education and the arts to support sports, which usually only produces more egotistical dimwitted greedy selfish jocks than well rounded competitive individuals.

Screw sports! Well done MIT.

Why not cut swimming? Speedos and HTH are really expensive.

college sports are a club activity that got WAAAAAAAAAAY out of hand. i think the NFL and NBA and their broadcast network partners should have to pay into a fund that goes to NCAA schools, that field teams in those sports. federal and state money is subsidising pro farm systems for those leagues. enough already.

Wow, this article gives the MIT intermural sports programs 100% more exposure than they have had for the last 4-5 years! Will be funny if they find out they only have 4 teams!

Like others, I was uunaware that MIT had intermural sports programs. I doubt that giving up the sports will cause a serious dent in applicants to one of the most competitive schools in the country. Although if they see significant financial benefits from giving up pistol and golf, they must be hurting badly.

Of course they have sports teams. The students don't actually play though. They build robots to do all the physical stuff for them.

Great, MIT has never existed for sports. There is a state of the art gym where every student can exercise and keep fit. If you want to be a professional athlete, MIT is not the place for you. This is the place for science and technology. This is not the school to prepare people who are going to entertain people with their athletic ability.

I am proud of MIT's admin for making this decision. It is long overdue.

It's too bad sports gets all the glory at other universities though. If only research could bring in that kinda money ...

LOL your joking right?

Thankfully, quidditch is to remain a varsity sport, and will see a dramatic increase in funding.
