Taliban Adultery Execution

Telegraph:

Their deaths were squalid, riddled with bullets in a field near their home by Taliban gunmen as the execution was captured on a mobile telephone.

In footage which is being watched with horror by Pakistanis, the couple try to flee when they realise what is about to happen. But a gunman casually shoots the man and then the woman in the back with a burst of gunfire, leaving them bleeding in the dirt.

I hope that the black out of this video was the doings of the person holding the cel phone camera, otherwise it serves as another example of scrubbing the news for American consumption.

I'm not a morbidly curious person, desirous of some macabre prurient pleasure, but if we are continually to be protected from reality by our media outlets, how will we ever get to know the magnitude of the viciousness of other peoples. I am just so tired of my sensibilities being protected by these self appointed "hall monitors of truth".

It's a simple thing to do a search on YouTube--there are plenty of them there. And there are interviews with people who live in these countries who speak about what life is like under the present laws. It's hard to be a woman over there, but occasionally they get some men too.....

Is this video supposed to show something? I don't see it as evidence of any crime. I hate the Taliban too, but this is a worthless video as edited and posted.

No religion of pieces.

No monotheistic religion ultimately leads to peace, just the world and people in pieces.

Especially when they have competition.

There is no Religion of Peace. This is the mode of operation of all Religions. The world will be better when ALL people are rational non-magical thinkers.

I'm not sure what this means. Would you elaborate?

The Taliban in Pakistan want only one thing...POWER.
Seems simple - of course that is what they want, but why?
When you have a belief structure that is so out-of-whack with any reasonable acceptable human behavior, you need an insulated place to practice those beliefs. Thus, the secular government in Pakistan makes a perfect target for them. The politicians are, as all politicians are, afraid to offend constituents, especially those belonging to a large voting block, no matter how crazy they might be. So it is easy for these zealots to influence these politicians, win concessions, exploit opportunities and eventually wield disproportionate power. Thus gaining the protection they desire and the apparent acceptance of their otherwise offensive dogma.

Not crazy, we have a fairly recent 8-year example in our own country.

And there are those who believe it is not possible for "morality" to exist in the absence of religion.

religious fanatics are not happy people. they are misreable people. not content to ruin their own lives, they want to ruin it for everyone else too.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:48 AM on 04/27/2009

I'm not sure they can be properly characterized as religious fanatics. I believe they are inherently bullies who have been miseducated in the texts of Islam. They are acting on a religeous "loophole" which allows them to murder those who simply disagree with them.

I am not sure I am seeing your point.
How are these people not religious fanatics by virtue of their exploitation of religious "loopholes" (as you call it)?
Seems to me that all religious fanatics find the loopholes that support their own twisted morals - no matter which religious franchise involved.

Funny that point "inherently bullies who have been miseducated in the texts of Islam".

All the major brands of monotheistic religion have texts that are subject to miseducation/misinterpretation and when so "interpreted" provide plenty of fuel for violence.

And there are more than enough bullies in the world to go around so . . .

Meh, the video is blacked out for the most part. You can hear what might be gunshots but you don't see anything. Smells like it could be propaganda. Not that there is anything wrong with putting the taliban in a bad light but this video doesn't do it for me. All I saw was 2 people laying on the ground and that is easily staged.

Maybe Junior should have kept the troops in Afghanistan, instead of diverting them for his own private and illegal war in Iraq. What a boy wonder he was!

They must be ashamed of themselves.
They obviously can't fight the real threat (others invading their country; breeding terrorism in their land) and the only thing they do is take women's rights and kill people for wanting to love. Pathetic!!! Fight the real fight if you consider yourself a decedent human being.

WE have a lot of folks in this country who want to run it by biblical law

Luke 16:18
Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery. (So Says Jesus)

Lev 20:10
And the man that committeth adultery with [another] man's wife, [even he] that committeth adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

you are quoting the Christian Bible...The Taliban operates under Shria Law, a strict interpretation of the Koran. However, Fundamentalists are Fundamentalists, whether Christian or Islamic.

This video was to serve as a warning and a display of power but it may backfire. Instead of instilling fear, it may unite Pakastanis to disavow and possibly destroy the Taliban.
