Joan Rivers Goes Mama Bear Defending Melissa

NEW YORK — Think twice before crossing Melissa Rivers _ her mother might just step in and chew you out.

Joan Rivers unleashed an earful of insults after Donald Trump fired her daughter on "The Celebrity Apprentice."

Rivers' targets: poker champ Annie Duke and Playboy pinup Brande (BRAND-ee) Roderick.

Melissa Rivers, who appeared with her mom on the NBC show, claimed the two formed an alliance against her. She called them "pit vipers."

Joan Rivers launched into mama-bear mode, calling Roderick a "stupid blonde" and Duke a "white trash" poker player. She called the duo "a Nazi and a follower."

NBC representative Amanda Ruisi didn't immediately return phone and e-mail messages seeking comment. Donald Trump could not immediately be reached.

As a person in marketing, I found the episode fascinating in how the two teams developed the ideas, changed them, then carried them out. Seems, however, that there are extra large egos involved. Actually, most all of the survivors are business people. Melissa killed her chances by being a complainer, and nobody likes a complainer. She was petulant, annoying and not helpful to her team. Jesse was the same way, but he had the sense enough to go with the team decision at the last minute. Annie is just what Joan said she is. She's a smart viper and should NOT be trusted. Ever.

But, this is, after all, show biz. Joan will be back, she is the heart of this season.

my theory is that Melissa was mad at producers...donald did not have one good reason for firing her...he had commented a few times that Melissa is obnoxious ( which I don't really agree with) and sees her as crazy ( which I don't agree with either) .. also the note passing thing from DT to Jim Cramer, and the looks that Jim and Ivanka gave when Melissa got aggressive with DT... I think he fired her becasue she is "crazy" and he was threatened by her...

Love Joan Rivers, and although Melissa freaked out a bit much she was right. She has been "dealt a bad hand" and Annie is too egotistic. I hope Joan returns to kick Annies Butt.

Did I miss something? I watched the show and thought Annie did a great job. They only BARELY lost to the other team of which Joan did nothing. Annie brings in the big bucks like she did for the auction (which according to Donald was a record). Joan was asked by Donald why she didn't call all of her friends (and he assumed they shared the same friends) and she said they said no. I assumed they said no because they do not like "The Donald". Jesse and the Golfer also said their friends said no when they called for money. Even last year's winner said he won because he brought in the most money. Joan is a classic but Melissa cannot bring in money, so what was the point in keeping her?

Like Joan said, Annie is dealing with blood money. Most of her contributors didn't reveal their last names. And she may well be connected with a number of questionable characters.

It was snarky, mean-spirited and a lie.
Believe me, Joan is simply jealous that Annie has so many wealthy
friends and yes, their real names and addresses came with their contributions.

EdGraham, I think what the post is really about is the fact that Joan Rivers has really always been this way when it comes to Melissa. Joan Rivers says anything and everything about people's wardrobe and how they act through the years, but someone comes after her or her Daughter and everybody else is a nutball and prick. Probably the main reason they were both asked to be on the show in the first place.

Joan's departing words to Brande and Annie that the show wasn't about raising
money for charity was very interesting. A Double "Huh?"

While on the show, Brande and Annie have raised the most money for charities
which has to be a slap at the River Twins apparent "short list of friends." Who knew?

Will Joan return to the show without Melissa?
You bet. If there is a camera with good lighting, she'll be back.
It will be interesting and a better show without Melissa.
