Buchanan: GOP A "Heavily White Party"

Pat Buchanan acknowledged to MSNBC anchor Tamron Hall on Tuesday that his party is facing a severe "demographic problem" in the years to come -- specifically, the GOP is on its way to becoming an all-white party.

"There's a real demographic problem with the Republican Party," Buchanan said. "It is a heavily white party, quite frankly. And as a share of the electorate, that is diminishing and Hispanics are growing very rapidly, Asians are growing rapidly, and by two-thirds they tend to vote Democratic."

Buchanan told Hall that the party is losing young people as well.

"Young people increasingly are more liberal and more socially moderate, and they move away from the Republican Party," he said. "These things are undeniable, the Republican party ... is in tough shape."

But Buchanan said the party shouldn't be written off just yet, and said Republicans have made impressive comebacks from deep deficits before.

I went though the Goldwater disaster, when we were down to 140 House seats and we were dead forever, and I came with Nixon in '66 and we won 47 House seats and we won 5 out of the next 6 presidential elections. I don't think that's necessarily in the cards, but I think it'd be foolish at this point when Obama is at his peak, really, to write off the Republican party for 2010.

The republican party is running on the fumes of hate and fear. The gains they made in 2002 were largely due to the ginned up fear of Sadam Hussein and his fictitious weapons of mass destruction. Well most Americans know we were bamboozled by the Bush whitehouse. The boogey man fear card wont work again. Whats left is the hate as most recently demonstrated by the teaparties. A group of bitter aging white people who believe that they are the only ones who work or pay taxes. Their hate is directed at non-whites, mexicans and the gay community. They believe all their taxes go to minorities. Anyone with half a brain, who has seen a pie chart of the federal budget, know over 90% of federal taxes go to 4 things---the military, social security, medicaid/medicare and interest on the debt. The interest on the debt slice of the pie has grown significantly since Reagan. Its the worst kind of govt waste, it pays for nothing, not a soldiers salary, not a road, not a school. Its republican hypocrisy at its worst. Americans are also seeing that biggest welfare queens are corporate-wall street types. Even more republican hypocrisy. Lastly can the media put to rest the meme America is a center right country. Most Americans are pro-choice and dont feel we have to demonized gays for political advantage. But hey, it wouldnt be the first time we have to drag the south into the future.

Glen Becky, Insanity and the others, are not helping the republican's cause.
Maybe the Arlen Specter move -beyond the fact it was also career related - is also a signal that the party doesn't provide hope anymore, as well as opportunity. And if you put the ideological view - from another space time - in the equation, the path to success is narrowed down to a dead end street.

I used to think Buchanan was most right wing conservative in the GOP, lately I find him to be the center of the GOP. Did Pat change or did the GOP go further right? I do believe we need a two party system to keep things on track, however I think the people representing the GOP are a bunch of goof balls and so does the new generation of voters. To survive the GP needs to tone down or kick out the radicals. The GOP platforn for years has been: Gays are bad, guns are good, women don't need rights, imigrants are bad, the U.S. is founded upon the Bible everyone else get out, and Liberals are bad Conservatives are good.

In 2009 the republican is facing one truth: The demography as changed.
As it is almost a "white party," increasingly ideological, the rest of the racial diversity doesn't identify himself with the republicans.
I will say that lately, the republican party has been shooting repeatedly in his own foot. And apparently they are not willing to learn that in the current state of the economy, ideology will not put food on your table. Maybe it works with a part of the white conservative privileged population, but the majority is starving for the right intellectual meal.
