HLN Tops CNN, Nancy Grace Beats Keith Olbermann In April Demo

In the month of April, HLN topped big sister network CNN in the primetime Adults 25-54 demo for the first time ever. HLN averaged 274,000 A25-54 viewers compared to CNN's 265,000. Fox News came in first with 662,000 and MSNBC placed second with 298,000 in the demo.

As a network, HLN — which rebranded from Headline News in January and adopted the tagline "News + VIews" — is growing in every hour of the day, posting 60% growth in the prime demo and 46% growth in total day demo.

At 8PM, "Nancy Grace" beat Keith Olbermann's "Countdown" in the demo, averaging 411,000 viewers to Olbermann's 384,000 (she also beat him at 10PM, when both of their programs repeat). Grace is up 103% in the demo compared to April 2008, the biggest increase in the demo of all primetime cable news programs.

In addition, "Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell" beat MSNBC's 7PM edition of "Hardball" in just its sixth month on the air.

And in one of the more surprising stats, "Morning Express with Robin Meade" placed second only to "Fox & Friends" in the demo — averaging 173,000 viewers and besting both MSNBC's "Morning Joe" and CNN's "American Morning."

Baffling that anyone would ever watch Nancy Grace more than once. My son and I have a running joke where one or the other of us will click to her during a commercial of whatever we're really watching to see if the show is still about "tot mom" .... it's a bit pathetic that it has been, night after night for 3 or 4 months.

I've never seen Olbermann but he must *s*u*c*k for Nancy to beat him. For the last year she's been showing nothing but the Casey Anthony story, 24/7, every night of the week!!!!! I like Nancy but she has drained that story. I turn to see if she's reporting anything new and then turn. If something's new, she'll report on it for 10 mins.

Stupid ignorant people are a very close-knit, unimaginative, and single-minded group. They all do not travel far from their comfort zones. Ignorance, simple-mindedness, and prejudice laced with other peoples pain, are their hallmark attractions. Is it any wonder that they flock to the likes of Grace, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Savage, and the like? You will not find them anywhere near an outlet that provokes thought. They need, and are drawn to pre-masticated bullsh*t.

this post sounds so awful, but it's "right on". I'd like to be a bit more positive, but these people are so stupid, ignorant and close-knit as johnie2xs says. But there are so many of them, as the ratings show. Pathetic. As a lawyer, I hate to think that potential jurors are watching her, but they are. Then can just get a "gut feeling" about the guilt of the defendant. Yeah. I don't live in the US and haven't seen her on TV in a long time but I'm sure she's the same. The awful thing is to make a trip to the US and see the horrible trend in what were news networks, becoming more and more FOXy.

That's the point, though. We don't watch JUST them. CNN, NPR, PRI, C-SPAN, and a myriad of News outlets, even conservative ones, are also included in my news diet. I would venture to guess that most Progressives do much the same. Like in the movie "Short Circuit", this

This woman has beat the heck out of this story for almost a year. Talk about a monkey on your back. If she believes in the justice system she wouldn't be trying "innocent until proven guilty" in public every night. Their bias, jump to conclusions and put their personal experiences into the mix. Talk about exploitation! I use to like Jane Velez but she's just as bad with that hyper talk and making fun of Octomom feeding all the gossips. These people need to go back and handle real cases... they have not been in their field long enough to warrant serious respect. And whose that whiny bookwormy nasal guest on Grace? Really? Compare to Grace Olbermann is very calm. Olbermann does not feed the misinformation for personal reasons. Grace keeps reminded the public that she was a victim because her fiance was killed, as if she's the only one in the world who experienced someone getting kill. There are a group of people who do not care about anything until something happens to them. I have more respect for those who do things for the good, because they know there is something wrong with the system, not because it bit them.
