Byron York engages in a perennial conservative media stunt -- breaking down poll numbers between blacks and whites to make the point that Democrats wouldn't be so popular if it wasn't for the 14th Amendment. Or something.

Obama wouldn't be so popular if you didn't count many of the people who view him favorably. Likewise, the Republicans would be more popular if you don't count the people who view them unfavorably. If we only ask the people we are popular with, we are the most popular party of all. I am sure this is why there is such an effort to repeal the Voting Rights Act, so we don't have to count the people who aren't white and generally don't vote Republican. This reads like more of Rove's divisive tactics. Instead of appealing to the broadest cross section of the population, this guy wants to find ways to marginalize and exclude those who disagree with him who happen to be black..

Umm, does this mean that blacks should not be considered if it makes Prez Obama too popular? Only whites should count?

I guess it was ok that Bush's popularity came mostly from whites, because blacks couldn't stand him. I don't think I ever saw Byron York make that comparison.

21 percent of the country claim they are Republicans. 13 percent of the country claim to be black.

But I guess it is the ole 3/5ths thing again huh? Or maybe they will go back to the 1/16th rule as well (that would get some of those who are now white). That's how they'll get back in power. Oh and they'll just deport all the Latino's back to Mexico even the ones who are citizens (they did this in the 30's). Then let's see, they will but the gay people in mental institutions, and they will deport the Asian women to China (yeap all of them doesn't matter at all) because Asians should be able to marry anyone (yea that once was law), and they will repeal women's suffrage.

That's how the Republican party will get their permanent majority (and you Irish better keep in line).

My guess are only the ignorant voted for the old white guy! Regardless of race and I lay odds more women voted for Obama than men! We simply are not as narrow minded as many men. The Republicans are rolling down hil like Merle Haggard's snowball headin' for Hell. Unbelievable fools. Yeah, if you don' count the 50% or so of American voters who are black or hispanic, Obama's "not so popular," since he's still not popular with the ignorant, moronic, bitter, poor white voters who cling to their snake-handling religious sects and their guns. York really should check the polls more, and notice that the stupid white bigots who still support the Republicans is 21% of the electorate. Obama gave the Republicans a chance this year to help save the American economy. Instead, they did all they could to block Obama's efforts to do so, and hoped out loud his economic policies would fail, which would mean Depression for the Republicans' dumb working-class white supporters. But when you're as stupid as they are, I guess you don't notice these things and just groove on the obstructionism as if it were a fun fist fight down at the tavern.

Stop with this nonsense, Clinton (remember the 1st black president!?) as well as failed candidates Gore and Kerry, also recieved black voting percentages well into the high 80's or low 90's. I know this will shock your pants right off of you -- blacks vote overwhelmingly Democratic!! Al Sharpton on the other hand never recieved the majority of the black vote in any primary in his failed presidential bid, Kerry won overwhelming black support!!. *sigh* Please read the article. PLEASE. Joe Biden has a higher approval rating among blacks (1% more) than Obama. Michael Steele, Alan Keyes and Ken Blackwell all got crushed by black voters and they share skin color with black people. Why didn't they get the votes? Because the majority of black people are democrats. Michael Steele lost the black vote in 2006 to democrat Ben Cardin by an amazing amount. John Kerry received 90% of the black vote in 2004. Black folks have been overwhelmingly voting for white democrats since the 60's. Please inform yourself on this issue.

President Obama received 90%+ of the AA vote in the election and he won the race with 52.9% of the total vote to McCain's 45.7%.

In the various post election polling data, the same 90%+ of AAs are still in the mix, AND per the latest Pew Poll, President Obama's job approval ratings have risen to 63% (73% personal approval rating which includes 46% republicans)

So if the AA approval numbers have remained constant pre and post election, and Obama's approval ratings have risen, then the increase in his approval did not come from the AA community, but from other demographics (white, asian, hispanic).
