Political Punch:

In the Oval Office last night as Health and Human Service Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was sworn in, President Obama said, "we wanted to swear her in right away because we've got a significant public health challenge that requires her immediate attention, and that is the H1N1 flu outbreak."

H1N1 is a more accurate definition. It diffrentiates it from other viruses.

Interestingly, a biomedical expert from Columbia University has reviewed the avalable genetic codes from those available on databases, and none of the segments contain avian or human segments in them.

I wondered, "Where did the media get that information then?"

I got my answer this morning when I saw a video of the head of the CDC stating that it was of swine, human and avian origin.

The large numbers of people impacted, especailly in so many different regions, indicates that it is not a high-fatality virus. If it was high-fataliy, it would not be so easily spread because it would incapacitate its victims very quickly, making the likelihood of them visiting friends and neighbors, shedding viruses hither and yon, less likely.

The concern with a virus that spread so quickly, to so many different regions, is it indicates that there is little host resistance in many human populations. That means "very few survivors" if it was a high-faality critter.
