Jim Inhofe: Specter Switch Will Bring Republican Revolution In 2010 (VIDEO)

First Posted: 5/30/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said Wednesday that Sen. Arlen Specter's defection from the Republican Party is "the first visible evidence" that the GOP will crush the Democrats in the upcoming 2010 midterm elections.

Inhofe, in an interview with on Fox News, agreed with South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint's comment that Specter's joining the Democrats and giving them 60 seats in the Senate is the "best thing" for Republicans because it will cause a popular backlash similar to the one that brought Republicans to power in 1994.

"I thought I was the only one who was really pleased with this change," Inhofe said. "This is the first visible evidence that what happened in 1993 is happening again now."

Inhofe compared President Obama to Bill Clinton, saying Bill Clinton was similarly popular and squandered his momentum on gun control and "Hillary health care."

"All these things, people rebelled against that," Inhofe said. "You saw what happened in the election of '94. Now we have the same thing happening, we have Obama doing the same thing that Clinton did back in 1993. In fact, it's worse. Instead of a 1.5 trillion budget we have a 3.2 trillion budget. All of these things are happening right now and people are already starting to rebel against it."

When asked about a Wednesday Wall Street Journal column arguing that Specter's defection represented a "crushing setback for the GOP" and trouble in 2010, Inhofe said he didn't buy it.

"If anything, people will just be focused more on the fact that [Democrats] now will have 60 votes, and that will help reverse this thing in 2010."

The GOP doesn't stand a chance...with Hannity, Beck, Steele and Limbaugh, etc...speaking for them! Lindsay Graham said the party was tainted, it isn't.... it is toxic!

That was also before Bush/Cheney torture, Monica Lewinsky impeachment for something totally stupid, stripping of the regulations for Wall Street that wreaked havoc on America, an illegal war in Iraq, and other failures to numerous to mention. This man is delusional.

Looked him up on Wikipedia. Unfortunately he just won re election, and with a wide margin. His views are not neanderthal but australopithecine (and not the most advanced in the pack, either).

Put your country first, Michael Steele is not showing that in his leadership, all he's doing is pushing the party further into oblivion with his off keyed speeches and notions. Stop worrying about the democrats and worry about trying to keep your party together, and that is to take care of constituents that need new jobs, help with housing, food, utilities and other bills paid after they've been laid off and have more to worry about than the Republican ego.
It amazes me that poor republicans are still trying to hang on to a party that care not about them but about corporations and oil, they come as an afterthought.

What is so funny- and pathetic- is how the repubs have to keep spinning every self-inflicted negative into "the best thing that could have happened, or "it's all part of the plan."

Inhofe is one of the basic reasons that the repubs won't crush anyone any time soon.

Most people are just normal and Obama and most (notice I said most) of the current Democrats represent normal.

Inhofe must have taken a moment from his denial of climate change to deny that his party is becoming a smaller, regional party primarily based in the south. The denial business keeps Inhofe very busy.
