Sasha Grey At "The Girlfriend Experience": Soderbergh's Porn Star Leading Lady (PHOTOS)

Tuesday night Steven Soderbergh premiered "The Girlfriend Experience" at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The scripted movie, which tells the story of a $2000/hour call girl juggling a boyfriend and professional demands, features porn star Sasha Grey in the leading role.

Despite the casting, Soderbergh's film supposedly has no sex and minimal nudity. Scroll down for links to reviews.

I caught this last night. Whole it comes across a but flat, it will certainly be an eye opener for those who are unaware of the daily business of an escort (see http://www.naughtyreviews.com). Would have liked to have seen more in-depth analysis of the characters history/background. Who is she? Where did she come from? What was her upbringing like? The movie ignores these details which are usually important for a character study.

Why don't you at least wait until you see the film before you criticize Soderberg's decision? Hollywood in its heyday was famous for picking people of the street and turning them into actors. Also, this choice seems much fairer that picking someone because of who their parents are (which seems to be the current trend.)

Unfortunately, it looks like Steven Soderbergh is back in 'Full Frontal' mode. This looks like self-indulgent tripe. Soderbergh is a unique filmmaker; he's obviously talented, but ends up making films that could be described as "bad but interesting." I see him as sort of a modern day Ed Wood. But with more talent.

As far as Sasha Grey goes, I find the casting intriguing. It shows that every person has the capacity for a movie performance, so long as they are typecast narrowly and the story is written around them specifically. It also goes to show that mainstream actresses who take on "edgy" roles aren't doing anything "artistic", but are instead doing the kind of role that any young porn actress could pull off.

Now I have been accused of being silly - well, yes at times - Offensive, certainly, many more times than I should have been but woman hating, never, I even try to say good things about my ex-wife ( well, not really, that is a lie) but I like women - all kinds, shapes and sizes. My only comment was that Ms Grey had a vacant empty look in her eyes - sort of the look that people who use unprescribed medications are prone to get.

How Brilliant! All the attention falls on Ms Grey, as if she were different from any other fame seeking girl cornered into this kind of lifestyle. But there is a reason for that. The genius here is none other than: Soderbergh for making a film with no love scene starring a pornstar. No matter how great the story and it's implications for society. The bottom line is this films comes ready with best grass roots marketing campaign since Barack Obama's run to the white house.
