Texas officials postponed high school athletic competitions until May 11 as a precaution against swine flu as Gov. Rick Perry and state health officials urged Texans not to panic.
The announcement came after the Centers for Disease Control reported the first death inside the United States -- a Mexican child who'd been taken to Houston for care after falling ill in South Texas.

Schools in Texas spend way too much on athletics and sports. Figures it takes a flu scare to shut 'em down. Gee, you think the kids will study more now, or the administrators will put more money into academics? Don't hold your breath...
If they really learned something, then they would be dangerous. Can't have smart voters. First rule of dictators, kill off the educated.
Note to the Flu Virus: If you know what is good for you, you BETTER be gone by Sept. 1. You don't want 10 million gun toting Texans coming after you if you cause the cancellation of ONE High School Football Game. You been warned.

I feel for the child's family, but maybe all events should be cancelled state wide because smoking has killed thousands of people due to related medical conditions. Or, all restaurants should be closed because obesity kills thousands due to related medical conditions; or all groceries should be closed due to high fructose corn syrup in drinks and foods that cause obesity........
