The writer hasn't actually tried this, it's clear. It won't produce perfume. The resulting water will smell of sap and other plant stuff, along with a trace of the nice scent, and won't be strong enough to use the way you use perfume or even cologne.

To make proper perfumes at home you have to distill the essential oils out of the flowers. It takes a lot of flowers to make a little perfume, but home distilling has been done for centuries, so it really is something you can do. Just not in this totally amateur and inadequate way.

It'd be great to see someone come up with a real process to use solar heat to distill perfumes at home.

Thanks for pointing out that synthetic scents are harming the environment. You have to pay more to avoid getting these toxins in your soap, cleaning products, perfume.

Another better alternative to synthetics is essential oils of flowers. I used to pay a hundred dollars for a fancy bottle of sweet-smelling synthetic chemical perfume. Now I spend that on a tiny bottle of pure essential oil of jasmine or ylangylang, which actually has helpful effects to the body. Just mix it with some almond oil and apply.
