What's Your Reaction?

Has Michelle become Hillary's muse? A few weeks ago we noticed that Hillary Clinton was looking mightily similar to the first lady when she paired a pantsuit with a wide belt and big flower brooch.

And now the Secretary of State is back at it: on Monday during a meeting with George Yeo Yong Boon, foreign minister of Singapore, Clinton looked snazzy in a salmon jacket and matching belt.

See below or read more about Hillary Clinton's style here.

During the election I would not have said this:

She's looking yummie, power and bright colors.. what a mix.

hillary is looking really pretty lately in all those light and lovely colors. That powder blue outfit is particularly lovely on her, with a nice line and cut.

For a while there I was thinking she needed a really good tailor to update her signature pantsuit look.

What an absurd title. Because MO wears an accessory, that means everybody else that wears that accessory is copying her? Gosh, I guess the majority of men in America are copying MO.

HRC wears the belt well. It suits her figure, and emphasizes that she has lost weight. The only issue I can see is that it does interrupt the body line, and HRC is not a tall woman. Having the jacket over it alleviates some of the "chunky" look that comes from interrupting the body line.

Hillary looks fabulous and always does in her clothes. She had style long before anybody knew of Michelle Obama. Hillary's belt is worn better where it belongs, on her small waistline and not under the armpits.

How old are you?

Around 20 I bet, as you don't seem to recall Hillary Clinton's total absence of style. Michelle Obama is no fashion icon, but she enjoys fashion and looks beautiful. Fashion used to be too "frivolous" for Hillary Clinton. She looked like a character from The Hillbillies.

After her healthcare and travel office fiascos, she became so unpopular, she had to step back into the shadows. She made herself over from First Lady to first wife. Her makeover included some fashion lessons. Her stylists introduced the matronly pantsuits.

Hillary Clinton looks ten to fifteen years older than she needs to look.

HRC had her own style. Just because it wasn't Clowns On Parade doesn't mean it wasn't a style.

She always dresses appropriately, and usually chooses ensembles that work well with her body. The one time I think she didn't it was actually because she was on the campaign trail and had gained some weight.

HRC was a very politically active FLOTUS, and she made many foreign policy visits to other nations. Dressing conservatively is a good judgment call, if you want to be taken seriously.

However, if your main activity is having cocktail parties and movie parties, and visiting elementary schools, then there is no need to be taken seriously.

Hillary's doing the belt thing better than Michelle has. Hillary wears a jacket, which covers most of the problems a belt might cause. She should probably wear slightly narrower belts as she's a bit short-waisted too. But this is not a bad look for her. And as for copying...hell, no matter what Michelle wears it's going to set a trend. Pretty soon we'll all be wearing wide belts and wondering if they make us look fat. The answer will probably be yes.

Hillary looks a lot better these days than when she was on the campaign trail. I suppose she was trying to look "populist" back then.

She had some great looks and some misses during the campaign. Back then, she wore her signature pants suits, or the occasional mixed separates, but basically not much difference in style. I didn't see anything that read "populist" about her clothes during the campaign. Plus, her suits are custom so they are all going to be expensive.

I agree. All this talk of channeling and copying is just plain silly and irresponsible. I remember Hillary's first inauguration ball gown had a belt. The reason I remember is that i thought it made the dress look matronly not that belts make dresses matronly but that one did. Good heavens but everyone, and I mean everyone wears belts. They always have and they always will but at Hillary's doesn't look like its holding up her breasts.

Hillary looks absolutely great in that orange outfit with the large belt . I am not a fashion person but she looks real good, especially lately.

What are you talking about? Hilary's always done boxy jackets. She dresses nothing like Michelle.

It's too bad that some people view this as a competition. Saying that "foo is channeling bar" should not necessarily be looked upon as a swipe on either foo or bar. In this case, both Michelle and Hillary are beautiful people (inside and out) that are deserving of the admiration they receive; this is not a zero sum game. HRC's style change (and it *is* a change) may or may not be inspired by MO's style. But if she was, how can that be a bad thing?

Oh, lord, if someone said, because I wore a belt I was copying MO, I'd punch them square in the face.

HRC is a very powerful, independent woman. It is absurd to say that, because she wears an accessory that MO has worn that HRC is copying MO. The majority of men were belts--are they all copying MO?

You'd punch someone in the face?! Serious issues...

In any case, if you are as serious about fashion as you project in your first sentence, you'd know that it has nothing to do with the fact that HRC is wearing a belt. It's the overall style which includes the style of belt, how it is worn, and the entire ensemble.

Except that it isn't a "change" since Clinton also wore belts -- not regularly -- on the campaign trail during the primaries. This story is as manufactured as the recent HP one on Clinton's sudden taste for suits with "piping." Haven't we seen her wear suits with piping for a number of years now?

Silly article. I see no resemblance other than both wearing belts. Completely different colors, styles.
