Reuters:

dam Lambert wears eyeliner and diamond stud earrings, sings like a dream and has won a rare standing ovation from tough-minded judge Simon Cowell.

With three weeks to go before the "American Idol" final, Lambert, 27, is favored to win the No. 1 U.S. television talent show and become, possibly, the first gay or bisexual singer to be handed the "Idol" title by millions of Americans.

I think Adam is wonderful. He should win I just hope Idol's audience isn't too conservative he is great. I really liked the "Rockstar" they had some talent on that show and the back up band was awesome.

We are watching a superstar being born. Not that he hasn' t paid his dues in the industry. Traveling Broadway show companies will lose a great singer-actor; but the rest of us can look forward to some really great CD's. He is one helluva irish tenor in Brigadoon (age 22). It's on Youtube. There's no end to his talent. Forget orientation - It should not be in play here. There is no controversy - He has already stated cheerfully that he has nothing to hide - End of conversation.

I do not care whether Adam is gay or not...I'm not planning on having a sexual relationship with him. I just appreciate that this man can sing...wow...can he sing. He reminds me a lot of Freddy Mercury.

Can this really be an issue? Freddy M. from Queen was "oh" so gay and we all loved him and thought nothing of praising his talent, because there was talent.... I hope I live to see the world except people for their gifts.....

"Gay" is simply a label, not a part of him. What should be defining him is not his sexuality, but his talent. Growth comes from acceptance and tolerance. It appears we have a bit of work left to do.

I appreciate your sentiments, but I gotta say that there's something charismatic about his ambiguous sexuality. Also, one could argue that a number of people from Bette Midler (?) to Freddie M. developed their theatrical style in the gay clubs and therefore have some sort of "gay" style. I suspect Adam also acquired some of his swagger in these clubs.

It would not be the first time that the best singer does not win American Idol: Catherine McPhee is a better singer than Taylor Hicks (the kareeoke entertainer), and Clay Aiken was better that Sutter (the teddy bear). I would not be surprised that boring Danny wins... because his appeal is being a widower. but Adam is the better singer.

"I am who I am," says all young men and women who have been very well-loved, and completely, honestly accepted by their parents. It's wonderful.

This article is really offensive because it takes away from the first talented person the music industry has the potential to promote in years. Adam Lambert seems to be a very gracious, polite guy who has worked very hard to get where he is now. Years of study and struggling to get into the business and all people care about is who he might prefer to sleep with. It's really disgraceful.

I do agree with that. Why should he have to represent his people, gay or straight? Why can't he just be a talented guy who we appreciate?

It's not really about "having" to do it.

However, there's a puzzle here.

If he were a member of many of
the other minority groups he would
in fact have no choice...

If he were female, that would be obvious.
There would be no "choice" in representing.

In fact, this article wouldn't exist. And further,
of "Alison" Alan C. said, "You may be the
ladies' only remaining hope" when Lil Rounds
wasn't doing so well.

Yet, again, no one complains saying, "I don't
care or want to know that Alison is a woman.
I just care how good she sings.

Likewise, with Ruben the idol who was a
man of colour. He had no choice but to
represent black entertainers.

No article, no issue.

But that Adam is (or may be) gay means he
can be in a hidden minority.

And I do believe he has an obligation.

Warmly,

Paulie Sabol.

His gayness (alleged?) is far more relevant and newsworthy than earrings and eyeliner. This is the music business! Legions of straight rockers have worn these things for decades. It's sloppy, lazy journalism to lead the article with these fashion details as if to suggest they implies something about his sexuality.

REALLY?? (ala Rachel Maddow). come on now! you are correct when talking about sloppy, lazy journalism. i'm also offend by the writer using "sexual preference," then opposed to "sexual orientation." this article seems rather desperate and insults the intelligence of ANYone who has a brain and knows anything about the entertainment industry. i won't even get started about music (especially in the 80's) being ambiguous, flamboyant, and well...GAY! did he eve see the wake me up before you go go video???!!!!

duh!

Gay, straignt, white, black red, yellow, male, feamale...who cares? He is a very entertaining singer. I am enjoying him on the show...THAT is all.

Routers you should be ashamed of posting this article. This kind of stuff is what divides people, it also exposes a type of igorance and hate that needs to go out of fashion. Here is a suggestion of the editor who approved this article. Why don't you invistigate what kid of musical training he's presued, how much he and his band have played in the past few years, the diffrent groups hes been a part of... I bet he did get this far sitting in his living room.

Hollywood's waiting for its first big, gay star?! That's a laugh. The closet door is busting.

It's a tragedy that a country that is "suppose" to be about freedom and equality is so hypocritical and judgmental--and so NOT about equality.

Right on - and it's usually the "holy rollers" who harbor the most hate.

My boss was telling me this morning that the word is that Adam's popularity is falling (hence being in the bottom 3 or whatever) and that people are saying it's because he's gay. Honestly, what is it with the U.S. these days that someone HAS to be a victim? If he loses it's because he's gay...if Allison loses it will be because she's a bit heavy, or a girl, or whatever. I don't care for his voice, and all of his songs are delivered the same and are beginning to all sound the same-and that is why I wouldn't vote for him-doesn't have a blasted thing to do with his being gay, bi, straight or "other". It's hard for a lot of people to stomach these days, but the simple fact of life is if someone wins, someone else has to lose.

Are you denying that people "lose"
opportunities because of bigotry?

Adam has not lost popularity.

While he has a challenge of
bettering his best (which is
way better than the rest)...

What happened last week (if
real at all) was fan empathy for
Alison (and perhaps Kris).

They split votes. Many doing
so thinking "Adam is safe"...

...however, it's the same problem
of voter apathy. Just because
an area is "heavily" D or R doesn't
mean people can "not vote" ...

Adam being GAY is important.
But it's not the reason for him to
win ...or lose.

It is important because young
gay people need to see an openly
gay person win. Just like all the
young people of colour who just
saw American award the highest
office in the land to a man of color.

Cheers,

Paulie Sabol

I guess it's something that is just such a non-issue for me that I never stop to think about it in terms of role models. Something to think about!

First of all, did Adam announce, he is gay ?
Secondly, what sexual preference has to be with the choice of music ?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:50 PM on 05/01/2009

Adam said that "women" may not be his preference.
Adam has used gay "code" but has not explicitly said.

It has no bearing on "choice" of music (per say).

It does have importance to finding gay role models.

Cheers,

Paulie Sabol

Can we say CLAY AKINS, so the answer is NO.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:31 PM on 05/01/2009

Clay Aiken didn't win that year. Ruben Studdard did.
