Gosh, believers aren't neo-Nazi, Cheney-worshiping, Republican
So, when does Huff-Po plan to issue its formal apology? I want to make sure I don't miss it.
I don't think the article was inflammatory, it was simply reporting the results of a survey.
A lot of the comments posted were, I think, inflammatory, but not the article.
Be fair.
This headline deserves some sort of award for being the most misleading ever. It's interesting how many people have totally misunderstood what the actual article is about, based on the headline. It also kind of shows how many people don't bother reading articles, which is kind of scary.
What a bogus article! Such a complex issue reduced to a few numbers.
Did the author thought about other possibilities? Perhaps people take up odd jobs on weekends to make ends meet? Perhaps people can connect to their god(s) without necessarily through the church?
Can someone tell the author to read "How to Lie with Statistics"?
Many feel that he is not connecting well with the "Little People". The focus is on the upper class of the country who seem to be wining and dining him, getting him to go along with their agenda, heedless of the fact that they are leaving the people who have lost their jobs behind.
He is a version of a Black man driving a Caddy, and living it up, while most of his relatives do not have a job.
So the headlines have to be hip-hop in style now? We have to be down wit' it?
It's a completely lame attempt at being hip.
Headline: ``Majority of weekly Church Goers approve of President Obama's first 100 days.''
Too boring for you?
Yes, I thought it was silly too.
When I first glanced at this article's title, I thought it might be "Weekly Churchgoers Are Down" as in down in numbers ..... I had a brief moment of encouragement.
It's because Obama is black. Hence, "down with." It's an NPR-type attempt to be what journalists used to dub "relevant.
It's only a newer phenomenon that religion is associated with Republican
One of the campaign buttons I proudly wore said, "Believers for Barack" with a Christian "fish" symbol. It not only showed my support for Sen. Obama; it had the added benefit of debunking the claim that "good Christians" were Republican.
I am weekly church goer and I love Obama. He is a kind and caring man -- two qualities highly esteemed in the Bible.
The headline should say churchgoers are positive about President Obama.
Not everyone knows the latest lingo "down with" is a good thing, and I am just assuming that is what it means!
IA and I was thinking the same thing. I thought the numbers were down when I first read the headline. Which I acutally wouldnt mind LOL. Is this reporting news or cultural lingo.
Not the way to phrase a headline.
Carol
I'm pretty much "with" the lingo and still, I took the headline to mean, churchgoing (attendance) down since O become president! lol
Ohhhhhh! Is that the sound of the Republi-Nu
What? Read the article??
You must be a troll. (-:
Just kidding, of course. Actually, you've only scratched the surface. For instance, how about the many folks who read the blog posts at Huff-Po but simply don't bother to gear their comments toward same?
I went to a church one. They never passed around a collection plate. They never asked for to Tithe 10%. They never even spoke in tongues. I guessed that is because it was CLOSED and LOCKED! Guess business only happens on Sundays at these churches.
Same thing happens in a synagoge - only you would not have been able to get in - Sammy was the last joo with soul.
Yes, oddly enough, churches need money to run. Ministers' salaries, heat, electric, repairs, hymnals, food, coffee machine, phone, etc.
I know--it's bizarre. But there you have it.
I remember George Carlin in one of his routines pointed out how ridiculous grown men wearing hats "backwards" were. He said as only Carlin could "after a certain age...spin those mutherf*ckers around."
Praise the Lord.
