Well kids, back in the olden days, there was something called AP that used to be the authority on all things newsie, but then they started lying, pandering to right wing nutjobs and suing artists over photographs...It was all downhill for AP from then on.

Without Google News I wouldn't even know that the AP still existed.

With newspapers dying and their own delivery system being a poor one, I don't get why AP is doing this.

And as a blogger, their negative stance on using and embedding AP video off YouTube, when they provide the embed code (they could choose not to quite easily, btw) is just flummoxing.

I thought Ron Fournier and Liz Sidoti were enough to sink a company, but I guess CEO Curley wants in on the action, too.

Curley could just hire back John Solomon to be his chief White House correspondent and sink the company in minutes.

Solomon = Hacktastic.

I agree wholeheartedly with the points you've made. I believe that in the end -- the disconnect here -- is an "age thing" at AP and within their leadership and Board.

Everyone seems to be running around over there screaming that the sky is falling in for the newspapers. Which everyone already knows. Those with the power to help establish and reinvent the new paradigm that we need, are unfortunately out of ideas.

And those with the new ideas and the new paradigm, are the object of railing threats from their elders.

But at least Anna Quindlen recognized when it was time to go. I've always loved her writing. And I know that what she's talking about is absolutely true about recognizing when its time to say so long. Because I'm a year older than she is.

the once venerable AP is now nothing but a rightwing republican mouthpiece of disinformation and propaganda ---

can't we figure out some way to exclude these media goons from the entire www ? ---

google doesn't need them, they need google --- i say good riddance to bad rubbish .........

If this were a question about Google's own rights to display AP content in their news section, the AP can do whatever they want. When it comes to general search, I'm not sure I understand what exactly they're hoping for.

It sounds like they expect Google to pay them to show search results from other sites that are using AP content? If that's so... good luck with that one AP!

You are correct. I don't think he knows the difference between Googles News Section and general search results. He sounds profoundly uninformed.

OK you geniuses posting in the comments, come up with a new business model for the AP.

Ten to one all the responses will be: "Let them go out of business."

Well, that;s a great way to kill your business in the digital age. AP's thinking is still in the 19th century.

AP does not want listed ion GOOGLE?
Do they also want removed from the phone book and condemned to obscurity?

When everyone else is fighting for GOOGLE's attention, this bunch of idiots wants to avoid an audience. Mass media without the mass audience is silly.

Google should just delete all references to AP news items and let AP sink into oblivion.

The AP needs the internet & google WAY more than they need the AP. The is unlimited supply & if the AP can't take a hint by watching what's happening to newspapers across the Country their leadership is blind. Google helps generate demand for their stories. If that demand dries up so will a large percentage of their readers. Since revenue is dictated by demand seems to me the AP would become a way less hot commodity. Seems like common sense to me, but what do I know???

Stick to your guns Google. The AP wire service is slowly working toward its own demise and it will not be missed. Afterall many of its other outlets (i.e. news in print) are on the brink of extinction.
