Coldplay To Give Away Free CDs

LONDON — Coldplay members say they will reward recession-weary fans by giving away a free CD at all their shows this year.

The band says it will give away the disc, "LeftRightLeftRightLeft," at all shows starting with the first date of Coldplay's North American tour in West Palm Beach, Florida, on May 15. Tickets for that show start at about $60.

The nine-track disc will also be available as a free download from the band's Web site starting the same day.

It was recorded over the past year in various cities and includes the tracks "Clocks" and "Viva La Vida."

The band said in a statement Friday that the giveaway was meant as a "recession-busting mark of gratitude" to Coldplay fans.

Obviously not a lot of Coldplay fans here. But why do so many people have to be so sarcastic and spiteful. If you don't like them fine, but thousands do, like me, and I'm sure those attending will appreciate the free offer.

I watched a coldplay concert from Japan last night - and really enjoyed it. I'd love to watch something current from u2. Art must be in the ear of the beholder. I've been a musician for 43 years and I'm wondering what you could produce.

An awful lot of hate towards Coldplay. Typical blogger: "I hate Coldplay so much that I'm going to read an article about them then type a mean comment". I happen to like their music although I can't afford to see them live. I think it's trendy to hate Coldplay. I've never followed trends. That's all. Good Night.

No, not "trendy", just a visceral, wretch reaction to self-centered ("I used to rule the world!!!"), bland, over-orchestrated elevator "rock" that lands smoothly on the ears of the complacent and smiling. Go to one of their concerts. It's like being in church. He's right to hand out the CD's -- there's nothing else going on.
