I'm a Dem, but I've always liked and respected Senator Specter. Primaries are definitely expensive and time-consuming, but quite good as the article says, to get the candidate listening to the voters. In this case, I believe Specter is already well-known by the Penn. voters and visa versa. A primary may be a chance for him to meet and listen to more Dems, but from what I've heard, a fair number of Democrates vote for Specter already.
With his established record in the Senate representing and advocating for Pennsylvania, plus the serious backing of Obama and Biden (Biden will most likely help fundraise as well as actively stump) I believe Senator Spector will win re-election as a Democrat without breathing hard.
