Jay Severin

Boston Globe :

Jay Severin, the fiery right wing talk show host on Boston's WTKK-FM radio station, was suspended yesterday after calling Mexican immigrants "criminaliens," "primitives," "leeches," and exporters of "women with mustaches and VD," among other incendiary comments.

Common Sense is Not So Common Anymore

I'd like to see Jay Severin and Janine Garafolo in a contest to see who can make the most outrageuosly uninformed and maliciuos comment.

I listen to WTKK everyday. I can speak from experience to appease the guy that said people posting here don't listen to Severin or live in MA.

Ten years ago or so when Severin came into the Boston market his hate rhetoric wasn't nearly as outrageous as it is now. He has steadily gone lunatic.

Make no mistake he is a hate monger. He has also embellished his accomplishments to a laughable degree. He has lied about his education, work experience and in the biggest laugher he claimed to win a Pulitzer Prize in a category that doesn't exist.

He's a pathetic and bitter spewer of hate and as someone else has mentioned he thinks he's a ladies man. It's quite comical considering he looks like an alien.

I believe he actually lived in Long Island while doing the show. How he could comment on MA politics and living conditions while living in New York is another of his fantastic con jobs.

I work in the Boston area, and also listen to WTKK, but not when Severin was on. You are spot on with your observation, he used to be mildly annoying.. but since the 2004 election he has been 'unlistenable' ( I made up that word).

He is gross. Inside and out.

I'm sure someone has already said this, but the worst thing about Severin's suspension is that he'll probably end up on Fox News.

I guess that Pat Buchanan is not alone in his energetic denigration of Mexicans.

This guy should have "the boys" from PA on his show ASAP

Lastly, I urge all of you to think before you comment. Just by reading your posts, I can tell the majority of you have never listened to Jay, and most likely do not live in the Massachusetts area. So you venture on to your news sites and read a blurb about someone apparently spewing hate speech, and the first thing you do is validate your own ethics through attacking someone else's. Maybe stop watching MSNBC for awhile?

WOW!!! now that may be the best post this site has ever had

If he made the comments that were reported, then I am glad that I have never listened to him.

Being a relatively loyal listener of Mr. Severin, I have a couple of thoughts:
First, the venue from which speech is exercised has a lot to do with the way it is interpreted. Comedians for example are given a fairly flexible forum from which to operate. If Jay had said these things on the comedic stage, folks MIGHT not be as offended. Those of you who are so incredulous toward Mr. Severin's thoughts ought to consider the last time you laughed at a joke that most likely would be offensive to someone.
Second, Is there any greater irony than a slew of liberal,"peaceful" people commenting on a right-wing "hate monger?"
Kappao is my favorite on this particular string of comments.

"Wouldn't you love to see the hate baters run their mouths out in the street? How long do you think they will last before someone has had enough and decides to show them the reality of the hate they preach?

So your view of justice is to feel good about bringing violence against Mr. Severin? I mentioned comedians earlier, Kappao, and you certainly got me laughing on my Monday morning. so thank you.

Just curious pragan... why exactly does one become a "loyal listener" of this guy? Is it because you find him funny? Did you think what he said about Mexican's is humorous? Having listened enough to his show, Severin's tone is not that of irony or comedy. He takes himself and his politics deadly serious, and never misses an opportunity to tout his superior intelligence and politically savvy. (oh, yeah, laughably, the married Severin also seems to think of himself as the world's gift to women as well... ok that is funny)

Let me preface my response by saying that I take your question very seriously.

The Practical: My commute is 80 miles each way, everyday. I enjoy the banter of talk radio, and it is important to entertain yourself during such a long ride home. I have to mix it up between my Ipod, Jay, and just random radio music.

The Political Junkie: I love the song and dance of political discussion. Those of us interested enough in politics to debate it will enjoy the philosophical discourse that ensues from a truly good debate. You may dislike Jay, and his inability to carry a joke very well, but there is no denying that he is a smart, informed, and experienced talk show host.

The Aesthetic: Jay's voice is unmistakably the best radio voice on the radio today. His command of the English language is sublime, and his annunciation stands alone as supreme. Detach yourself from his viewpoints for a second. To have a daily radio talk show for four hours a day on a wide range of intellectual/political topics is very difficult, so anyone who can do it, deserves respect. Beyond that, Jay's ability to simply assert his opinion in the manner that he does is an unequivocal talent, he belongs on the radio, that is his niche.

I've posted before about the ignoble Severino. From last summer as the campaign was warming up: "Listening to my local FM afternoon hatefest, filled with ad hominem attacks and slurs (wtkk and jay severin to be precise) is a real education. Severin absolutely demonizes Obama to what he calls his "best and brightest" listeners. They didn't hire him at the radio station because he's smart. They hired him because he's a Rupert Murdoch (see: http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2004/07/b122948.html) hitman."
Being a Bostonian, I stumble upon Severin's rants periodically, feel nauseous and change the station. But make no mistake, he's well paid BY his radio station to spew hatred and does so on a daily basis. If Severin deserves to be fired (and he does) then WTKK deserves a fitting sanction as well.
01:35 PM on 05/04/2009
I heard Severin say one time on the air that he would "do everything in his power to bring down Obama" and "that man will never be my President and I will never support him or anything he does".

The clown is a pure hate monger. To say otherwise is pure fantasy and laughable.

Hate speech by hater designed to rally haters. No coverage under law or Constitution. Sorry haters, you lose. Forever.

Imus is an A-hole. Severin is a talented broadcaster.

...we need more liberals/progressives that leave scars.

The funny part is, he calls his audience 'The Best and Brightest'. I don't think too many of them get the joke.

slightly off-topic, but what is with these guys and the names? michael wiener changes his name to michael savage, jimmy severino lops off the ethnicity from his name and becomes jay severin.. are they so ashamed that they're not anglo-saxons?
