I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Jumping into today's fray over who will replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter, Rush Limbaugh twisted past statements by President Obama to sarcastically suggest that he would appoint an "illegal alien." Obama had expressed a desire to appoint "someone who understands what it means to be on the outside of things ... what it means for the system to not work for you."

Via Media Matters:

LISTEN:

At another point in Friday's show, Limbaugh waxed cantankerously, "We need a teenage single mother, who's gay, is a lesbian, who's dirt poor, African-American, and disabled."

LISTEN:

As the tirade continues, Limbaugh addresses potential Souter Supreme Court replacement Sonia Sotomayor and other Hispanics, saying, "Sotomayor is Puerto Rican, this is going to make the Mexicans and the Cubans angry."

In another slew of predictions and proposals, Limbaugh suggests that "wacko fringe nutcases" will "start pressuring Obama to pick somebody like Ward Churchill" to replace Souter. Churchill is the author of the controversial September 2001 essay, "Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens," which blamed US foreign policy for the 9/11 attacks.

When the GOP relies on demagogues like Limbaugh to rally and pander solely to the crazy party loyalists against the current Administration, one knows they're desperate for some social influence. On one hand, I'd love that people and stations who promote the same mentality as his be shut down because of their outright lies and hate-mongering--as they do have the potential to incite violence in civil society. But on the other hand, if they continue this path, the GOP will become so unpalatable to the majority that they'd completely lose power in the next elections.

If It was up to me I would like to see Obama nominate Al Sharpton. That would drive the right wingers and their idiot followers totally insane.

NJ is still ashamed that we contributed Alito to the court.

Rush is upset because it is unlikely that Obama will pick a Supreme Court justice suffering with SWMS (Stupid White Man Syndrome) a pandemic that afflicts many White male pols and pundits (and a few female pols and pundits) and people who still want to fly the flag of the old Slavederacy and charge up hills into walls of musket fire to spread slavery. The recent data developed by researchers on SWMS (a major spike in SWMS occurred after Barack was elected President) shows that education does not provide immunity as Justices Alito, Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, Kennedy all have raging cases of the pandemic. Signs of the pandemic include sudden, irrational, stupid, dishonest rants challenging everything Obama does, no matter how minor and irrelevant. Researchers say the disease is triggered when the stupid philosophies and ideas of these people are suddenly ignored and labelled as "stupid" by the bulk of the US populace.

So when Obama nominates a hispanic female to the supreme court and the right wingers start referring to her as an illegal alien, that will be the final nail in the coffin of the republican party. The hispanic community to come out in droves to support democratic candidates.

Exactly! ...Well not quite. It's the standard GOP tactic of "working the refs" as well.

LOL. I can't stop laughing.

Obama have finally driven these wingnuts mad. I think he should nominate Jesse Jackson. Man I can see Rush being carried out in a straight jacket.

How many groups of people did he insult with one fell swoop this time?

He must be on a suicide mission.

Rush Limbaugh -- it's been my observation it doesn't take a brain to be a fan of his -- there are so many of the mindless wonders who depend on him to think for them. I've seen people panic when they don't get their thought for the day. They know not what to say. Have you ever seriously tried to converse with one?

Yes I have. I usually try to read the huffington post before I sign onto my favorite forum so I know what to expect that day. They are spot on with Limbaugh's daily talking points. Sheep

I have made a commitment to NOT click through to any of Rush Limbaugh's articles. The last thing I want is to have my readership counted as support for anything he has to say. He is always asking people to boycott things....why can't we do it to him. The only way for us to rid ourselves of him is for him to tank in the ratings. Join me. Ignore him and his rants......Now....if I can only convince my mother to do the same.

Someone has slipped a cog here..... No one has been selected yet.
Unless Obama picked someone in some altternative universe in Rush's so called mind??
cue the twilight zone music

What Rush revels in is predicting liberal behavior. You can disagree with his political philosophy; but you can't deny how accurate he is in anticipating what liberals, especially politicians, will do; and that includes selecting a Supreme Court Justice.
What's interesting to someone like me, who is new to this site, is how little substance is discussed, among so many who are impressed with your our intelligence. What's disappointing about most discussions here is how little self-reflection is evident. There seems to be mostly assumptions, but little analysis. Perhaps it's the format; but it seems you have all reached political enlightenment and are entitled to have disdain for conservatives; without much understanding of conservative thought.
I'm sure most of you find it reassuring to denounce Republicans and conservatives like Rush, but wouldn't it be more productive to discuss issues, instead of make personal attacks?

Who cares?

He is irrelevant.

Except to the minority.

Rush is hilarious. I listened to him for the first time and heard this tirade. He's one of the best entertainers ever. No PC nonsense.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:04 PM on 05/02/2009

Well Granny, you're way ahead of most people here. Rush is an entertainer; but too many people don't get it.
There is an article here about how conservatives don't get Colbert's humor, they take him seriously. First, that's not my experience. Second, it seems to be the case with liberals and Rush. They get outraged by his shows, which is his intent. He plays liberals like a flute. I like anyone who is irreverent and isn't PC.
By the way, being PC and towing the liberal line isn't necessarily a sign of intelligence. Simply calling Republicans "stupid" doesn't advance an argument.

The Repubs did the very thing Ru$h is accusing Dems of when the picked Palin as McSame's running mate, and when they picked Steele to run the RNC. It is my understanding that Ru$h supports both of those picks. Gee, this would make Ru$h a hypocrite. Nothing new there.

He's President of The United States of America. Over 66 million Americans voted for him.

What country do you live in ?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:45 PM on 05/02/2009

Personally, I live in the part where 48% voted against Obama.
I accept him as my President, I just don't accept his political philosophy; nor his policies.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see his popularity yielding results in foreign policy. At the G20, everybody wanted a photo-op, but they have turned down his offers. Maybe he just needs to criticize the country who elected him more.
Are we all expected now to bow to the Saudi King now that Obama has shown the way?

I think perhaps that you're the one who's swollen. There won't be another Republican in the White House for a long, long, looooong time.

That's what we thought after Nixon and I supported Carter.
Four years later, I became a "Reagan Democrat"; because Carter had screwed things up so bad. He even laid the foundation for this sub-prime credit crisis. That was 30 years ago, we could be reaping Obama and the Dems mistakes for that long again.
Carter had a higher approval rating than Obama at 100 days, but he was a one termer.
For Obama's spending and expansion of government to avoid another Carter stagflation would require suspension of the laws of economics.
The problem for the GOP is there's no Reagan out there yet.
