I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Late Night

This was quite a week for late night with Jon Stewart praising Rick Sanchez on the "Daily Show" after years of mocking the CNN anchor for, among other things, having himself tasered.

Joe Biden also made late-night headlines this week by telling people to keep away public transportation and air travel to avoid swine flu. Stephen Colbert responded by comparing Biden to Samuel L. Jackson's character from "Snakes on a Plane."

More from Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno below.

The vice president answered a question directed at his family. He answered honestly, and suggested we use common sense with information given for our own travels and family...now I understand most Americans are not used to the honesty thing, but I'll take it any day before a VP who li.e.s out of the side of his mouth for eight long years.

Yeah. He really is the best thing since Ford or Carter, isn't he? LoL

But, seriously, he shouldn't have said it. When he's talking to the press about what he recommends for his family, he is recommending it to the whole country. Neither he, nor any of us, should defend his statement on the weak premise that he meant "Oh, that's me. I meant I'm simply recommonding that my family head for fallout shelter. I'm sure the rest of you will be just fine..."

Whew. Please do not follow any vice-President's - or any President's, or any politician's or religious leader's or.. - recommendations without weighing their validity for yourself and applicability to yourself.

I shudder to think of America if America as a whole had jumped on the Cheney "hey, if it makes you money, kill 'em all" bandwagon.

Context, Joe, context. Staying away from 'confined' places means avoiding nearly every place of business, restaurants, airplances, trains, cars, subways, schools, universities, hotels, offices, etc.

It's fine to tell an elderly person to do this as they're usually in their home or the home of family or friends for the most part. But the rest of us, whom the economy depends on and who have to use confined office buildings to work -- at this stage of the epidemic -- can do just as well to be alert to those around you and steer clear of the coughers and sneezers, wash hands often, keep hands away from your face and keep immunity at top performance by getting enough sleep and eating healthily.

Joe mispoke. He is the VP and needs to keep the full context in mind before he speaks. Besides, he was not support the POTUS' position on the virus. Bad, Joe, very bad.

Rick Sanchez is such a dick.

He makes more sense.

Then again, it was the most useful thing coming out of CNN's bullpen for quite some time. ;-)

Stop picking on Joe Biden ...he's absolutely right in his view of confined places.
Also, Jon Stewart was the best (as usual!).

Isn't it funny how republicans bandy the word Freedom to everyone, like we are all in some prison, and they want to free us. What's freedom got to do with the way republicans ra...pe the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Could someone please explain that to me

The swine flu is treated with humor because the idea of a pandemic requires some humor to assimilate. Evolving Employer benefit practices actually discourage employees from taking a day off sick - this could be disastrous. ...................

Wow Rick Sanchez has come a long way from his days at WSVN Channel 7 in Miami when I and everyone I knew refused to watch Channel 7 News if Rick Sanchez was the anchor.

I was just thinking the same thing!! His reporting after Katrina in 1992 was so horrible that he was the laughing stock of South Florida - and there was no place to go but down. And he just that, landing a gig with CNN.

In defense of Joe Biden- I'm glad he was honest with us. What if this flu turns out to really be bad and our elected officials kept telling us to fly and travel just to put some dollars into some corporations balance sheet? I'd rather have a broke corporation than have people getting sick and possibly dieing. He was being the responsible VP that I want in office. I'm a fan of Joe! Always have been.

I know!
i have been amazed at how everyone was talking like he made some outrageous statement. So now the profit for airline companies and the like is more important than our health??? the shame just keeps growing.

Joe was being an alarmist. This virus' status in the US does not necessitate the public avoiding all confined spaces. Surely, if someone is identified with the virus, such as at a school or work place, then precautions must be taken at that site. But to issue a blanket statement for everyone to avoid confined spaces any and everywhere is a major over reaction on Joe's part.

JOe was not authorized to make such a statement. After all, he is the VP, not a medical or health authority in the administration and he is not the POTUS. He needs to act like a team player and support the president. I like Joe well enough, but he was wrong on this one.
