Swine Flu

LA Times:

Although the pace of new H1N1 infections seemingly slowed on Saturday -- with a total of 195 cases reported in the United States and 763 worldwide, and a few even turning up in pigs -- a World Health Organization official said he thought that the agency's infectious disease alert level ultimately would be raised to its highest point.

Another risk communication fiasco. If WHO is stupid enough to announce level 6 (the highest threat) the media will have a field day.

Dr. Margaret Chan- head of WHO- should then resign or be fired for gross incompetence in failing to recognize that WHO induced panic and resultant economic losses are FAR more dangerous than this virus seems to be.

This is very close to a book by D Baldacci. The Whole Truth. It's about perception management, the idea that saying it enough, makes it the reality. PM is the new reality. Similat to how Palin got so popular so fast. The same way we ended up in two wars, for no reason. Remember the term.

Google the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. This WHY all the CDC panic. If you watch and read, you will understand that this might not be over soon, but just beginning. The Avian Flu, the Swine Flu, and the Human Flu, have all mixed in swine who are so like humans as they (the pigs) can even donate a heart to a human.
So, hold on tight, and pray that it doesn't mutate this summer, Even if it waits a few years, a killing flu will come. Just going on history here, folks. What goes aound, comes around.

There are two incredibly interesting books that you can download for free that talk about vaccines.

The first deals with the 1976 flu fiasco, "Swine Flu Exposed" by Eleanore McBean. This takes a look at how the vaccine producers created a crisis where there was none.

The second book, published in 1936, and very hard to find, was put on line by a library in Australia. You have to sign in to read it. It is titled, "The Medical Voodoo" by Annie Riley Hale. They ask for a contribution, but it is not required. You will be sent the file within minutes. It is an absolutely damning look at how vaccines work, how they got their start, and how anyone who disagreed with the establishment was crushed.

The difference between level 5 and level 6 is a small degree of geographic distribution - it would not really indicate that the situation is any more serious than it is now.

Unfortunately, it would give "journalists" something more to cause hysteria with.

Totally agree with comment above regarding JHS - Journalistic Hysteria Syndrome. More on this malady at http://travelvaccineforum.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=129.
I wonder who has caused more harm, the press or the virus?

The way the pandemic has spread so far already shows the contrast between the spread now and the spread during the 1918 pandemic. The virus today is already in virtually every continent, this is before it has even spread locally in any countries or indeed states. The 1918 pandemic took weeks to reach other countries.

There are similarities though. With 19 confirmed deaths out of roughly 800 confirmed cases (at time of writing), that represents a mortality rate of 2.4%. Not wanting to sound alarmist, but the 1918 Spanish Flu killed about 2.75% of those it infected, so this one isn't that far off.

Fear and panic. Fear and panic. Governments love fear and panic.

The real danger is the panic created from this. If anyone thinks some suspect, for-profit vaccine hastily rushed out by a multinational pharmaceutical is going to protect them, people need to research why people actually died of the dirty flu shots back in the 1976 outbreak.

You're better off with chicken soup, vitamin C, and taking the hype with a huge grain of salt.

763 cases out of 6.5 billion. Well now if that is not a reason to panic I am not sure what is.

8 deaths from flu is not a pandamic. Seems like they want to unload the stored vaccine from the last swine, avian flu pandamic that didnt happen..13,000 die a year from regular flu, this is irresponsible..

Actually, it's more like 36,000 that die of the regular flu each year. I don't know if that's worldwide or just in the States.

ridiculous response to this. And they NEVER mention it was an outsourced pig farm in Mexico that started this whole thing courtesy of NAFTA. The "liberal media" is very careful not to mention the source is one of ours. PAH!

I wonder if we went outside this country if the fear level is as intense............

Well, in this country is certainly isn't.

That's not to say people weren't aware of the potential of this virus, but they weren't even close to the panic in the U.S. Blaming the media isn't entirely true as your media is our media too. CNN, ABC, NBC, FOX, etc., are all available and watched.

There is a general difference in calm reasoning behaviour between our countries.

The WHO needs to invent ten new alert levels... in case a real pandemic hits. They have used up their old ones on an ordinary case of flu.

Unbelievable.
