Kemp

President Obama has released a statement praising former congressman Jack Kemp, who died Saturday of cancer.

"Jack Kemp's commitment to public service and his passion for politics influenced not only the direction of his party, but his country. From his tenure as a Buffalo congressman to his ascent in national politics, Jack Kemp was a man who could fiercely advocate his own beliefs and principles while also remembering the lessons he learned years earlier on the football field: that bitter divisiveness between race and class and station only stood in the way of the 'common aim of a team to win.' Michelle and I extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the entire Kemp family."

Former President George W. Bush also expressed sorrow on hearing of Kemp's death.

"Laura and I are saddened by the death of Jack Kemp." he said. "Jack will be remembered for his significant contributions to the Reagan revolution and his steadfast dedication to conservative principles during his long and distinguished career in public service. Jack's wife Joanne and the rest of the Kemp family are in our thoughts and prayers."

Sad that the Republican Party shut Jack Kemp out years ago.Except for his anti-gay positions - which were apparently at odds with his own sexual history - Jack Kemp was a pretty cool guy. I was a fan of Republicans like Jack Kemp. There are now none left - absolutely none.

We are stuck with loud mouth windbags full of hate. It's why I left the party and why it is doubtful they will ever again get my vote. I am an Obama fan now, and a strong supporter. While Republicans figure out more ways to corrupt government, at least Obama seems to care about actually governing. It's a great change after 8 years of total incompetence.
