I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Rep. Michele Bachmann is on a roll. Less than a week after suggesting a link between the swine flu outbreak and Democratic control of the U.S. government, the Minnesota Republican penetrated a heretofore unseen zone of weirdness and accused the Obama administration of premature fiscal ejaculation.

On Saturday, May 2, Bachmann delivered a rally speech in which she said the administration had engaged in an "orgy" of spending and that the government "spent its wad" too early. The previous administration, she noted, hadn't spent its wad until early August.

"During the last 100 days we have seen an orgy. It would make any local smorgasbord embarrassed," Bachmann said. She then told the crowd that April 26 was National Debt Day, which conservatives commemorate as the moment government spending outpaces revenue. As Bachmann explains, "The government spent its wad by April 26. Every dime government spends after April 26 throughout the rest of this fiscal year is borrowed money."

I read that the Bachmann family farm receives subsidies. Does anyone know if this is true?

Crude, crass, and offensive! Does she not understand the meaning of that phrase?

I would think that all her up-tight, right-wing, church-going, Bible thumping base would be shocked and offended that she would use such language! What an embarrassment she is to her state!

Bush and the GOP started the bailouts on Wall St. If McCain was in office think he would have ended them? lol Bush started the spending "orgy" and the next president was obligated to it, like Iraq. The GOP is trying to deflect it's failures while blaming everyone else.

Can someone from MN enlighten us about what is going on in your state politically? You re-elected this woman, why? You have the Franken/Coleman situation. This is just not reflecting well on the state.

Sort of has the stench of Florida about it, doesn't it? Not good.

Whatever happened to the state where "the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are above average?"

Part 2

Two - Tinklenberg was not considered a very strong candidate — he was somewhat restrained, he refused interviews, and his name even made Chris Matthews titter after his bombshell of an interview with Bachmann. Even though a flood of donations came in during the closing days of the campaign, they came too late for Tinklenberg to capitalize on them.

Minnesota's districts will very likely be reapportioned due to population decreases in the northeast and southwestern parts of the state. That may change her chances in '10. But there's also a growing number of democrats in her district. Over the last 4 cycles, the Republican has won the district by 22% in '02, 8% in '04, 8% in '06, and 3% in '08.

Part 1 --
Michele Bachmann was elected by a fairly narrow margin in 2008 - about 3%. There are really two factors to which her win is commonly attributed:

One - Even though Elwin Tinklenberg was endorsed by BOTH the Minnesota Independence Party (IP) AND the Democratic Farmer-Labor (DFL) party, Minnesota's election laws prevented his name from appearing next to both designations on the ballot, so it appeared only next to DFL. Next to the IP designation was the name Bob Anderson. He was not endorsed by the IP, but still managed to take about 10% of the votes. This is not to say that he took all of them from Tinklenberg — a SurveyUSA poll conducted a week before the election said the split of likely Anderson voters was 5% Democrats and 6% Republicans.

how about the guy who introduced her? What a piece of work that one is. I'd say the right wingers are out of their minds angry at the internets. They seem infuriated by blogers. They're just so angry and wanting a fight. And the crowd screaming for her like she was a rock star. Again the right is so far gone even their cheers sound desperate.

What an elegant woman.

Angie Harmon was right! Republicans DO have "class".

LOL.

The Republicans really need to shut this woman up. She is not helping their cause at all!

And she'll do it while simultaneously denying that global warming exists. Because logical consistency is anathema in Bachmann World.

Nice choice of words for such a devoted "Christian" radical like Bachmann. First, it was her outright ignorance of U.S. history and shameless bigotry, now she also seems to have some heavy Freudian issues going on in there. How the people of Minnesota re-elected this person is beyond me.

Bachmann brings nothing but shame to her church, her state, and her country. The woman is a disgrace to an already limpering GOP. Her words are doing nothing more than poisoning her own well.
