Nadya Suleman Sued By Gloria Allred For Exploiting Babies

Octuplets mother Nadya Suleman has something more than multiple bottle feedings and diaper changes to deal with: Attorney Gloria Allred filed a petition in Orange County Superior Court Monday requesting that a guardian be appointed to protect the rights of Suleman's eight infants now that their mom is reportedly moving forward with plans to film a reality show.

"Rather than choosing to provide her children with a normal life, their mother has chosen to commercially exploit them and it appears she plans to continue commercial exploitation of them in the future," Allred said during a press conference held in law offices. "If she doesn't protect their rights, the courts will do it for her."

Attorney Gloria Allred needs to get to work and file more petitions, Jon and Kate Gosselin (Jon and Kate plus eight), Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar to name a few. Then all the kids can be put in foster homes and I mean homes because they will be broke up and put in different fosters. If their lucky they wont be raped or beaten. Beaten is a weak word for that though, I WAS A FOSTER CHILD I WAS RAPED TWICE AND BEATEN IN EVERY FOSTER HOME BUT THE LAST ONE (THERE WERE 24 FOSTER HOMES IN 8 YEARS.) I HAVE SCARS, FROM BEING BURENED BY CIGARETTES AND CIGARS, AN IRON, HIT BY CORDS, STICKS, BRICKS, COFFEE MUGS, WHAT EVER WAS HANDY, MOSTLY ON MY LEGS AND BUTT WHERE THEY COULD BE HIDDEN (IF THE FOSTER HOMES LOSE THEIR KIDS THEY LOSE THERE MONEY.) Wow. I just went to Paul Peterson's website: A Minor Consideration www.minorcon.orgg) and I admire what he's working for and doing - this isn't about Allred, whether you like her or not.

There is nothing here that can reasonably suggest that Peterson's interest are opportunistic or based on self-interest/benefit. Mr. Peterson's organization (who's mission is ensuring the welfare, well-being and freedom from exploitation of children OVER that of box office sales and profit) has been fighting and working for these protections of minor children for several years. LONG before Suleman impregnated herself.

I do have a question, or concern, in wondering how the relevance or adherence to California laws might be affected by Ms. Suleman contracting for her reality show in another country. Jurisdictional conflicts can be complicated enough without international complexities.

Kudos to Peterson.

I don't know this is looking a bit like bitterness on Allred's part. I agree there should be someone besides Octo-mom appointed to look after the interest of ALL the kids. Someone that does not stand to gain from them either financially or through noteritety. Should the state of California have done this itself? Maybe someone from the Labor Department or Mr. Peterson's organization should have sought to secure a gaurdian for these children. If I were Gloria I would have passed this to a colleague to pursue. Make it appear that she is not simply concerned for the interest of the children.

Well dang it is about time some one stops this woman from spending all the money on her...put that money away for these kids for later in life...She always shopping or going somewhere..when does she every have time to bond with these kids....She is a idiot....Congrats on getting someone to make sure she dont spend the money these kids are making on either having more babies or $1000 on makeup..ect.ect....and I do think she should be paying back the money she got for a fake back problem...she should of been working and this might not of happen.....take the money and set up a trust fund for these kids...it has shown in the pass she will shop until she drops and wasteful spending on trying to make herself into Jolie instead of spending on her babies which should come first..and she should be spending more time at home not out showing off in front of the cameras

Usually I don't like Alldred, however in this case someone has to stick up for the kids. It's too bad that Allred didn't go for all 14 though. Don't forget numerous independant people have said that she's crazy. She does not use good judgement either, and appears impulsive.

Yay! At least someone is watching out for these kids. Crazypants mom isn't. They're just another means for her to get more Botox, French manicures, student loan money, a nicer house, government funding, blah, blah, blah. This woman's family is absolute proof that it's all about mom, mom, mom, with very little thought given to the overall health and happiness of her fatherless and quasi-motherless kids. I hate OctoMom too, but this is ridiculous. Being on TV isn't abuse by itself. I'm sure the woman will screw up on her own without people trumping up charges. You might not want your kids on TV but thank God some things are still up to parents to decide.

There are child labor laws in California that restruct what parents can do when they hire their minor children out to the entertainment industry.

It is NOT up to the parents to decide. Filming a minor child for a TV appearence past the hours and times of day specified in the law IS abuse. Especially if the child is just a helpless, vulnerable infant.

Thank goodness for Gloria Allred and Paul Peterson. It's time someone looked after the interest of those babies, because their mother only looks at them as her eight "little opportunities" to make money.

Parents have the right to decide many things regarding their children, but thank God (as you say), there are legal restrictions protecting children from parental "decisions" that hurt them - and worse.

You're right - being photographed or videoed isn't, in itself abusive. But being "on TV" isn't nearly that simple. The numerous precedents showing that being "on TV" (arguably a way too simplistic definition) can be extremely detrimental to kids, and is pretty significant proof that it's not just a matter of having someone pointing a camera at a baby or child.

I wish I was reading about the special care these kids were getting as needed, rather than the Nadya-centric stories. She has a one autistic child and (I think) other disabled children (or child) among her six who are older than the newborns.

The newborns, being preemies, may have special needs as well, all of which I HOPE are being focused on before any and everything else. Maybe Suleman's special needs kids are receiving special services that are crucial to their development, and we're just not hearing about it.

For the autistic child alone, the complete change in his/her life, home, familiar surroundings, noise, activity, etc. could be a monumental struggle. What a huge transition for any kid...
