Murtha

Washington Post:

The headquarters of Murtech, in a low-slung, bland building in a Glen Burnie business park, has its blinds drawn tight and few signs of life. On several days of visits, a handful of cars sit in the parking lot, and no trucks arrive at the 10 loading bays at the back of the building.

Yet last year, Murtech received $4 million in Pentagon work, all of it without competition, for a variety of warehousing and engineering services. With its long corridor of sparsely occupied offices and an unmanned reception area, Murtech's most striking feature is its owner -- Robert C. Murtha Jr., 49. He's the nephew of Rep. John P. Murtha, the Pennsylvania Democrat who has significant sway over the Defense Department's spending as chairman of the House Appropriations Committee's defense subcommittee.

This is what Rep. Murtha had to say some time ago.

Murtha: "If I'm Corrupt, It's Because I Take Care Of My District"
posted Mar 31, 2009
Is that to say representing his district made him corrupt? Same old same old from both sides of the aisle. Democrats AND Republicans complicit in the great game of fleecing America. Only in America will the people allow this sort of thing to continue unabated year after year. Shame on all of us, our parents ought to take us out back of the wood shed and give us a good whuppin!

There was once a great cartoon of a group of citizens tossing an expensively dressed politician out of a legislative building. The caption said " No - I meant throw the other rascals out!" It would appear that citizens have their work cut out for them.

I supported Obama and still do. Murtha? Surprising? More of the same on Capital Hill. Glad this article appeared, there should be more of this "name and shame" maybe this and more exposer in the internet age will do more than Obama or anyone else could. Iraq?Gitmo?Afghanistan?Healthcare?First 100 days and mostly token gestures and lip service. Where's the beef! He should be putting this stimulus into action that benefits the majority of us, now! Not to the banks, insurance companies and defence contractors who got us into this mess and in whose self interests it is to keep the status quo .Computerizing the healthcare industry is his big answer to the 40 or 50 million(and climbing) Americans without health insurance? Great! When I became seriously ill or injured that's really going to help me! Just shows us how much power and influence lobbyists and special interests groups still have. Murtha and his nephew are small potatoes. Someone should take a look at Pelosi and whose conected with her.....

Makes you wonder if the real powers that be got Obama into a room and told him the story about what happened to JFK.

Consequently and furthermore is the disappointment to read that Boxer doesn't favor Obama's plan to get rid of offshore tax havens.

Why is anybody surprised this has happened again? Murtha is one of the most corrupt members of Congress and yet the voters of his district keep returning him to office. Murtha, however, is the poster child of just how corrupt Washington has become. It is no longer about "the people". It is only about themselves and their power and gain. This goes across party lines and is just further proof of just how bi-polar the American electorate in general has become. We are the independent auditors of Congress.

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.” - Patrick Henry

We knew he could be approached from the ABSCAM days. He evaded capture then because he was open to a deal but needed to know his partners better. So it is not unexpected that his family would find ways to benefit from his work. Just like Pelosi and Feinstein.

If he's managed to steal $4 million for his nephew - his nephew - it makes me wonder just how much he's stolen for himself.

So is your plan to do whatever Republicans do? You've already spent more in the first 100 days, Gitmo is still open, no change in warrantless surveillance, hey lets start another war....who's next? North Korea, Pakistan, Mexico...

Actually, you are beginning to see that the problem is not R or D, but rather the corrupting influence of power on the individual. Once power is obtained, there is usually very little that will not be done in order to maintain that power. This transcends all parties. It is a human disorder.

While it may not smell good, any laws broken? Furthermore, while we're at it let's investigate all 500 plus on the Hill and see who's fingers are where !! Or we can try and fix the mess we're in and go after this later. Let us not forget Halliburton/Cheney and the multibillion of dollars that went to them on no bid contracts...

Halliburton/Cheney is somewhat different from this. Cheney was forced to sell his Halliburton shares and to put his money in a blind trust so he would not know whether his actions were benefiting himself or his family. Murtha appears to be inentionally funneling money to a family member.

He should have been gone during ABSCAM, when it became apparent he was supporting an airport named after him, when his brother lobbies for defense contracts he oversees, or for this. Take your pick.

And Halliburton got all thosre no-bid contracts for the war tailor made for them: Iraq!
