Fringe

NEW YORK — Fox is giving its weird-science drama, "Fringe," the benefit of a second-season renewal.

The network's announcement makes official what was already clear: "Fringe" premiered last September to become only one of a handful of new series to qualify as a hit.

The mystery thriller stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and John Noble in a quest against science-based attacks waged on the world.

J.J. Abrams is a co-creator and executive producer of the show. His other credits include the TV series "Lost" and "Alias." He is also the director of the much-awaited new "Star Trek" film.

WOO (to the) HOO! JJ Abrams and his team know how to write strong women characters & I've been a little nervous about Fox's ability to renewed good shows, but they came through!

This is my favorite show right now. The only time I've ever not liked any aspect of it was in last night's episode when Peter recreated recorded sound from melted glass (watch the episode, it will make sense.) That was beyond absurd. However, the acting at the end by John Noble more than made up for it. Great show.

Both salubrious and lugubrious concurrently.

I had watched it then abandoned it for awhile. Then I recently returned and found the actors seemed MUCH more comfortable in their roles, it was more 'comfortable' for me to watch. There's nothing worse than a show where the actors seem to be clenching their butt cheeks while reciting dialog (ahem: "Ghost Whisperer").

The show's main benefit is the heroine's first name is 'Olive'! A nice name for an action hero.

This is one of the best shows on TV right now.

Oddly enough, they've never replayed the first episode.

Oh, shoot. There goes another weeknight dedicated to sitting in front of the TV instead of doing something constructive, because there's no way I can miss an episode. This show is great!

Excellent! I wasn't wild about this show at first but it grew on me. Glad it will be around for next season.

One of our favorite shows this year. I sure hope they can keep up the momentum. The interpersonal Chemistry is the primary reason for success, and the clever scripts are truly inspired.

It's a good show with some great actors and excellent scripts. I was pretty certain they would be renewed after that clever plot device they used where Olivia envisioned herself in the place of the killer, just so they could justify showing her walking into a bar and making out with a stripper - pure genius. I'm not into girl-on-girl action, but I love it whenever someone figures out a way to get around the censors and put something on that sends the prudes into fits. You've got to admire that kind of imagination - it's so much better than gratuitous violence and gore.

Good.

I love this show. It's ensemble cast really works well together.

I gave the entire cast even more respect for appearing at New York Comic-Con a few months back. They appeared genuinely humbled and taken aback by the fan outpouring. And they were having fun too. Especially Torv and Lance Reddick. Even stayed for some autograph signings.

Thank God Joshua Jackson survived Dawson's crack and did something meaningful on tv

I agree, but I hope they will allow him to develop his character beyond the wise-cracking son with unresolved daddy issues. As long as they continue to allow his character's relationship with Olivia to grow more emotionally intimate but non-sexual, the show is golden. If they ever hook up, it's over.

I really love the show. Joshua Jackson has been the real surprise for me. Didn't ever watch Dawson, but I find his take on his character spot-on. His character's back-story hasn't even begun to take off. I'm sure when it does we will all be in for a great story!
