We seem to be forgetting that India, also a nuclear-armed country, is a powerful democratic ally in the war against Islamic fundamentalism - especially in Pakistan (and Afghanistan). They too, perhaps even more than us, will never allow a Taliban regime in Pakistan. For that reason, keep this young terrorist under lock and key - and as a useful (live) source of information in the future.

We Indians certainly oppose Pakistan's rabid Taliban fanatics, but the problem is that Pakistan is now playing a game of nuclear blackmail against the world. Pakistan now intends to keep asking for more aid, more money, more arms, and blackmail everyone into giving it to them. They've now gotten Americans on the hook for giving them everything they want. Everytime their leaders appear on the news, they have a list of demands, which if not met they claim will result in bad Taliban-ish things happening. This is a protection racket. This is an extortion game. You don't see any Pakistanis criticizing their govt's extortion tactics. Nobody really knows where all this money is going.

Back when Pakistan was receiving military aid from the US to back the mujahedin during the 1980s, then too Pakistan insisted that it would not tolerate any accountability or interference on how it spent that aid. This is the same trick they're pulling today. And when they pulled it back then, it resulted in them arming the most fanatical and regressive Islamist types it could find. The moderates were marginalized, and in some cases even assassinated. This is because Pakistan knew that only by keeping everything intertwined with Islamic fanaticism, could it hope to exercise control over the guerrillas and keep them subordinated to its own interests.

(cont'd)

The big fireworks show that Pakistan is staging at this moment, as it pretends to kill Taliban, is just a fake act. The body count Pakistan is producing merely amounts to civilians, and not the Taliban fighters, whom it wants to preserve as vital military assets against Afghanistan and India.
This is why civilians are complaining of indiscriminate firing by Pakistani miltary forces - it's because the more collateral damage there is, the more Pakistan will be able to present that casualty toll as Taliban casualties. They'll just blur the lines, so that nobody can tell what's a Taliban casualty and what's a non-Taliban casualty. In the chaos of it all, then Pakistan can let as many Taliban off scot-free as possible.

Congrats to India for at least attempting to give this guy a fair trial. Bring the evidence (it's not hard) and then convict if beyond a reasonable doubt the boy/man is guilty. Period. It's sad the US finds it so hard to do the same. Very sad.

Is the "beyond reasonable doubt" standard used in India? I'm not familiar with their criminal system. Anybody know for certain?

They need to isolate and study him for a long time to figure out what makes a terrorist like him tick. Is it simply a chemical imbalance or indoctrination in the madrassas. They need to find out what made him the way he is and then determine what percentage of AfPak's are like him to quantify the threat to India. They can hang him after a thorough study has been completed.

He's going to say anything he possibly can to try and duck punishment. He's also asking for walks on the veranda, and perfumed deodorant. That's a lot more than he gave to the victims he mercilessly gunned down, that's for sure.

Does anyone care? I'm the first to post, so I think not. I don't care if he was 10 years old, if he's carrying a gun and participating in a terror attack, he shouldn't get any special treatment. There is a GITMO detainee who was rounded up at the age of 13, and he's still there. He was ordered to be released last year because he was found not guilty in our kangaroo court, but he's still sitting in there. This guy was caught on tape with a gun in his hand. The 13 year old in GITMO was rounded up for the $5,000.00 reward offered in late 2001 for anyone who turned-in a Taliban/AQ member. In one of the poorest countries in the world, that's real money that any person in their right mind (or with a family to feed) wouldn't pass up. I don't care how old this guy is, but it shows that we need to catch the right people. If some foreign military offered my next door neighbor $5,000.00 to turn me in, and I was taken to a foreign country without being charged, tortured, tried, and released after 7 1/2 years, there would be hell to pay. My neighbor would be first, then whatever country did that to me would have to pay.

He is a just the pawn in this, but I agree. I don;t care how old he is. he should be tried as an adult.
