Dan Rather

Dan Rather joined Jon Stewart in mocking the media's coverage of President Obama and Vice President Biden's trip to Ray's Hell Burger Tuesday by dressing up as a 1973 newsman and creating a fake report of a Nixon/Kissinger burrito run.

"I'm standing outside Washington, DC's Cancun Mexican restaurant," Rather said, dressed in a wig. "Inside, President Nixon and Secretary of State Kissinger are enjoying some traditional Mexican entrees. I'm told the President ordered Mexicana Madness — that's a spicy chicken burrito — while Dr. Kissinger opted for a fish taco (lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, and copious amounts of a substance known to locals as 'guacamole')."

Rather continued, reporting that Nixon and Kissinger got separate checks — "they're going Dutch on this!" — and joking that Nixon said he doesn't make his own burritos because, "I am not a cook."

Thank you Dan Rather for taking this on -- only someone like you - a true journalist- could bring this 'coverage on burgers' to light" so the intelligent among us can see it for what it is. Pure Nonsense!! Trivia has become news.
Keith, Larry, shows of note --hosts, anywhere hear this --Dan Rather is vintage, let us have more of him. He will tell it like it is!

LOL!

...I feel like such a fool; I was SO CONFUSED watching this piece. I couldn't really make out if it was real of fake!...

...Rather's hair piece looked ridiculous, but then the film looked so authentic so I figured be must have looked like that so many years ago...

...but then, it still all looked so ridiculous, so I was half laughing and half believing it...

*still laughing*

I had the same reaction -- the film was real but everything else seemed absurd. But really funny. It was perfect. I hope this Obamamania with the MSM will die down as time goes on.

I was confused at first too. Trying to remember if Dan Rather had curly hair and bushy sideburns in the 1970s.

Then I noticed all the background people walking by had on 2000s clothes, which gave it away.

I'm a longtime fan of Dan Rather, and that segment on the Daily Show was HILARIOUS!! Loved the wig and it was great to hear Dan utter several of his famous "Ratherisms" (folksy sayings most often heard on election nights!).

I know Dan has his gig on Mark Cuban's HD network, but I would so love to see him return to a network (maybe MSNBC?) that can be seen by more than a few hundred thousand people! Plus, I hope he wins his suit against CBS--maybe we'll finally find out that those accusations about Bush ducking out of National Guard duty were really true!

I never much cared for Dan Rather until the Bush Administration forced CBS to fire him for telling the truth about Little Georgie's misadventures in the National Guard. Dan has not gone quietly into that good night and I love him for that. Keep up the good fight Dan. You will win eventually! Maybe then Dan can report on the entire Bush Administration going off to jail. That would be perfect!

The documents used as a source for the story were forged; the story was true.

Another example of killing the messenger so we don't have to deal with the truth.

Oh my word, this was FUNNY!

"I am not a cook" - younger folks wouldn't get that one.

Please elaborate. I'm one of the young ones and I didn't get that bit. Thnx.

OK, here's the explanation. During one of Richard Nixon's press conferences after the Watergate scandal broke, he said the following (I'm working from memory, so this might not be totally exact!) "People have to know whether or not their President is a crook. Well, I am not a crook!"

By the way, young one, Dan Rather was the CBS White House correspondent during the Nixon administration and he and Nixon frequently had some testy exchanges. Don't know if any of them are on YouTube, but if they are, look them up--they were very entertaining!

Not all of us are ignorant of history, let alone one of the most famous lines ever uttered by an American President.

I'm 25 and I thought that joke was hysterical and brilliant.

Well, the person asked. At least he/she didn't want to remain ignorant. A moment of personal growth if you ask me. When are you going to experience one?

I just did, now that you mentioned it! A parody of Nixon's infamous words about Watergate, "I am not a crook." Thanks.

Kissinger is not funny. He is a mad man. And he advises our leader.

Finally, of course, there is Kissinger's habitual fondness for any form of dictatorship. To have been the friend of Pinochet, Videla, and Suharto, while almost simultaneously fawning on Brezhnev and especially on Mao, is to have been a secretary of state who was soft on fascism—and soft on communism, too! Unconditional talks with Ahmadinejad and Assad? Why not? They are the sort of people with whom he (and Kissinger Associates, the firm that introduces despots to corporations) prefers to do business.

U.S. National Security Adviser Jones declared the following:

Thank you for that wonderful tribute to Henry Kissinger yesterday. Congratulations. As the most recent National Security Advisor of the United States, I take my daily orders from Dr. Kissinger, filtered down through Generaal (sic) Brent Scowcroft and Sandy Berger, who is also here. We have a chain of command in the National Security Council that exists today.

Mr. Jones is basically telling us the National Security Council is run by Henry Kissinger. The NSC is the principal forum used by Obama for considering national security and foreign policy matters. Biden, Clinton, Geithner, Gates, Mullen, Emanuel, Summers, and others are listed as participants, but not Henry Kissinger.

Isn't it ironic how you read about a real journalist making fun of the cable news outletsand their mindless reporting, and on the same page you can click to learn that david gregory is getting another hour long show to spew his mindless reporting and useless questions.
