Glenn Beck, a man Jon Stewart praised as, "a guy who says what people who aren't thinking are thinking," that "GQ" begged the question "Is this the most annoying man in America?" about, that coworker Shep Smith doesn't even understand, has seeped into our national consciousness over the years becoming a pseudo-star on the talking-head stage.

Before you decry this or try to challenge it, know that we've decided to condense Glenn Beck to one minute so you can have the full experience without actually watching his show. Believe me, you'll thank us.

I was raised a Mormon, so I am very familiar with most of Glen Beck's current schtick.

After the 32 murders and one suicide at Virginia Tech, he said the lesson we all needed to draw from this was to "strengthen the family"--a lesson taken directly from the 1995 LDS document, "The Family: a Proclamation to the World" (well worth reading at lds . org, as it is programmatic for the church's political agenda, including opposition to Prop. 8)

I found it morally repugnant and emotionally abusive for him to push his bromide onto that tragedy. Does he really think the good, god-fearing Christian family of the murderer could have been any more effective in getting him to accept the help he needed if they had somehow been a stronger family? I would hate to have to judge them. And as for the other 32 families, how could a family be strengthened enough to withstand a hail of bullets?

Anything to direct attention away from any practical measure that might be taken to prevent this kind of thing. Better to blame the victims, their families, and the corrosive impact of liberal tolerance on the strength of the family.

Mr. Upton: even were Glenn Beck truthful, you do see that whatever noble ideas he may be advocating are utterly destroyed by the messenger? For example, I support gay marriage, but if Charles Manson started speaking out in support of it, I'd really want him to shut up. Beck cannot make a cogent argument, resorts to straw men, false analogies, and (the worst) name-calling (ad hominem) -- but above all, he's obviously emotionally unstable and resorts to inappropriate blubbering to make his arguments seem more valid. A lot of liberals are out here waiting to have a reasoned debate on the desperately vital issues of the day, but when conservatives keep throwing intellectually handicapped nut jobs into the ring, they (and as result, their issues) look pathetic. Where's the next William F. Buckley?

It's interesting how people are afraid of others viewing, reading and listening to opposing views. Is Glenn Beck that much of a threat? I'd say he is if you like the status quo.

Glenn Beck is just funny, he is a crazy person and sane people just laugh at his insanity.

The only way the "status quo" will change is if Barack Obama screws things up more than Bush did, he has a lot of work to do if he is going to do THAT bad. Until then Republican rage is just wasted, it makes them look childish because the results of what Obama has done haven't come yet. We will see. I'm not a Obama fanatic, some of the stuff he is doing scares the hell out of me (as any sane person should be) but I'm not going to judge him until I KNOW he has screwed up.
