A series of new web ads by MoveOn.org targets Senate Democrats for stripping a provision from recently-passed bankruptcy reform legislation that would have allowed judges in certain circumstances to change the terms of a mortgage.

The biggest target among those Dems: Arlen Specter, the Pennsylvania turncoat. MoveOn says a new poll finds 85 percent of its Pennsylvania membership aren't charmed by Specter's party switch and might favor a primary challenger.

Six other Democrats are targeted in videos for their opposition to the provision, known as cramdown, which would have offered relief to certain homeowners in bankruptcy and in default on their mortgage. The measure failed after lobbying by the financial industry so intense that Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said of the upper chamber that banks "frankly own the place."

"Last week Senator Specter had a choice," says the ad targeting Specter. "Wall Street was trying to kill the president's proposal to help families facing foreclosure. Senator Specter could side with the banks or with Pennsylvania families..."

Each ad points out how much money the targeted Dem received from the financial industry.

Sounds exactly like the rabid reds back when they held sway. They were on a w arpath to run out all the RINOs from Congress.

How did that work for them?

Specter could be a stealth party splitter.

The Penn. Dems should be very careful about him and not listen to out-of-state orgs like moveon. They should operate on their own best instincts.

In PA, we don't need party splitters. PA there are over a million more registered.as Democrats.
Arlen Specter is a slime. We don't want him in our Party, period!

When it comes to the bankruptcy bill, Senator Grassley should be targeted for any ad campaign.

He's the one who is responsible for so much of this suffering !!

Senator Grassley (R) of Iowa

MoveOn is right to get on Specter's case, but even more than Specter, it is the idea of backdoor deal making instead of an open democratic primary without all of the intrusion of politicos like rendell and so many others (hopefully, not Obama) that is irking. However, that said, the veto override is important, given the obstructive nature of the republican party. the financial lobbyists, whether targeting republicans or democrats are, as MoveOn notes, the problem

Backroom political deals are/were all too common in PA, unfortunately. I was an eye-witness to that in 1972, when I was a McGovern poll watcher on voting day. I watched the local Dem and Repub Commitee people colluded to cut the top of the ticket. I was ejected from the polling place 4 times that day for objecting to blatant election fraud, Committeemen from both Parties telling people who to vote for right in the polling place, letting husbands and wives, and fathers and daughters into the voting booths at the same time, and moving the curtains on the voting booths so that the Committee people could watch how people voted, as they stood there with their street lists, checking off the voters as they voted. Tom Foglietta, a City Councilman soon to become my Congressman, was one of them The next day, I filed a complaint with the DA's office for election fraud. The day after that, I received a letter from Licenses & Inspections telling me I had 31 building code violations in my house, but I have not gotten a building inspection. My election fraud complaint was bundled with a bunch of other election fraud complaints, and the case dragged on and on for 2 years until Arlen Specter became the DA, whereupon he promptly dropped all charges against the politicians of both parties who'd been on trial for the wide range of election fraud they perpetrated that day.

The problem for Specter is that it looks more and more as though the PA voters won't have Specter's back. And in the final analysis, that's what counts.

I have friends in PA and they are DONE with the guy. They will not vote for him if they have a good DEMOCRATIC choice in the primary.

Can you immagine what sign that would send to the " moderate" corrupt corporate Dems in the Senate.

Sestak to challenge Specter??? Specter has good reason to be mad! I'm sure that was NOT part of the deal between Specter and Harry! Specter sure to pressure Harry to get Sestak and any other possible challenger to back down so Specter runs unopposed. And to think that things have changed in Washington....

tbone99 -- you would be wise to know what the hell you are talking about before you speak!
First of all, it was President Obama who told the Congress to come up with a bankrupcy bill, that WOULD include the provision known as cramdown, because President Obame wanted to help millions of home owners hold on to their homes, and he knew that bankrupcy judges being able to do cramdowns would have worked to help homeowners who were in bankruptcy and in default on their mortgage to hold on to their homes. President Obama has been speaking about making the bankrupcy laws more beneficial to Middle Class Americans since he was on the campaign trail. Go look it up!

Move On speaks with a forked tongue.

Barack Obama received 7.2 million from real estate , finance and insurance for his inaugural celebration alone, many more millions for his presidential campaign and he has handed out BILLIONS in taxpayer dollars to the fat cats and their corporate friends., even appointing several Goldman Sachs alumni, essentially lobbyists for the financial sector, to his Cabinet, yet all at once they are pointing fingers at others?

IT was Barack Obama who wanted this bankrupcy bill that would have ALLOWED judges to be able to do cram downs, whcih would have helped millions of families across America.

LIP SERVICE! as the psrty leader of the Dems, Obama has not been strong. His campaign promises are in tatters on the ground after the corporatists in his party destroy the legislation either on behalf of the corporations or in cooperation with the repuglyKKKans on behalf of the corporations.

Move,on--Acorn (under serious investigation this time)and other groups must remember.Their tactics are so unamerican its pitiful. There is nothing wrong with a protest, but we actually have businesses running protests. These thug groups have threatened CEOs and their children, cheated on voting, and support legislation that help small groups of people at the expense of 80% of the population.Yet when 300,000 Tea Party participants protest in behalf of all working Americans they are ridiculed in a Media so Biased that no one buys newspapers, and news ratings have fallen off a cliff.I do believe Acorn will be held accountable this time,People are standing up and saying enough is enough.I have seen footage of voters saying they voted 100s of times. How long do we all have to suffer at the hands of a STATIST.

Those idiot Tea Party ls were not protesting on behalf of all working Americans, they were protesting on behalf of very WEALTHY Americans, the only ones who have to fear a tax increase under Obama. Talk about a bunch of bleating sheep led by Feaux news.
