Obama Press Conference

Hollywood Reporter:

But executives at the Big Four broadcast networks are seething behind the scenes that President Obama has cost them about $30 million in cumulative ad revenue this year with his three primetime news conference pre-emptions.

Now top network execs quietly are hoping that Fox's well-publicized rejection of the president's April 29 presser will serve as precedent for denying future White House requests for prime airtime.

Oh look, now the major TV channels do not want America to hear what OUR President has to say, I wonder why?

So who exactly was prevented from seeing/heaing Obama at this news conference?

There is no need for him to be on 10 channels. This is what PBS is for. That is the only station that should be airing it. The others have a choice.

These are the PEOPLES AIRWAVES!! May the four networks need to be reminded WHO REALLY OWNS THE AIRWAVES! IT IS NOT ABOUT WHETHER YOU WANT TO TELEVISE THE PRESIDENT...YOU BETTER TELEVISE THE PRESIDENT WHEN HE WANTS TO ADDRESS THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES.

It's too bad the television networks don't use the public airways or need bail out money - that way Obama would have a way to boss them around.

Why does it need to be broadcast on every network?

These ridiculous boneheads remind me of the bank CEO's and the credit card CEO's who complain because their thieving and robbing of the public has suddenly been made public.

Obama is not only a terrific President (so far), but EVERYONE, including these lunkhead 'network execs' are making TONS of money precisely because of Obama and his wife Michelles' tv appeal.

Two years of making big profits off of Obama's charismatic personality and now they complain because they give (maybe) 10 or 20% of that profit back (for the 'pressers').... Greed, greed, greed, and more greed is what they know and love.... they are never happy, and never will be.

Easy fix: just issue FCC licences to broadcast companies that feel coverage of public affairs is a small price to pay for the lucrative use of public airwaves.

Oh, the joy of it. Networks complain:

1) President Obama holds too many press conferences
2) The Administration speaks on background too much.

Which is it guys? Attributable pressers or unattributable gaggles?

Let them seethe. The airwaves from which they derive their income belongs to you and me, not them.

The networks are seething. Another article reports the Press Corp is irked.

They would prefer, I assume, to have less access, less info, less transparency, less work, and not to have to work with an Administration that knows how to string a sentence together, answer questions, and, actually, has some news to report. They would prefer to have an Administration and a President that they can kick around play "got cha".

Perhaps, it is time for the Administration to issue written press releases, once a day. We like the interaction with our President on a regular basis. But, since the media no longer serves the people, but rather their self interests, we can go to the internet instead, to his own website and the media can get the news after or at the same time the people get it, rendering them more irrelevant than they are fast making themselves.

That should do a lot for the viability of the printed media and the TV networks and give them something to be really seething and irked about.

It is interesting to note that the Press Corp is "irked" about background briefings with "anonymous sources". Yet, it is perfectly acceptable for The New Republic to publish, under Jeffrey Rosen, a seething, irksome, slanderous, gossip sheet on a potential Supreme Court Justice, citing nothing but anonymous sources and calling for her to be disqualified, as an evaluation of her fitness for consideration.

Oh come on. When Survivor gets rescheduled because of a press conference, I watch it at the rescheduled time. They sell the same # of ads.

The simple fact is they're running out of ADVERTISERS these days. Most of the ads anymore are for other programs on the same network. Filler ads.

So gimme a break.
