What's Your Reaction?

Republican senators used a hearing Thursday with Attorney General Eric Holder to discourage an investigation into torture under the Bush administration. Both Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Richard Shelby of Alabama suggested that they would push hard to expand any probe of the CIA's "rendition" program and other legally and morally questionable tactics to include the Clinton administration, as well as members of Congress who were briefed on interrogation methods.

Keith Olbermann had Brandon Friedman from VoteVets.org on Thursday night to discuss how people in the military felt about Republicans' crusade against torture probes.

Threatning the AG. That ought to be worth some prison time.

What threat? Sounded like he was asking a legitimate question, no threat. Sounded like he just told him there are members of both parties, and past Administrations that may be investigated if the WH insists on an investigation into this, including Mr. Holder himself. This Administration is going to setup every, new, incoming Administration for investigation. When you start an investigation better be careful, you never can tell what, or who will turn up.

A little thing called the rule of law and justice demands that where there is evidence of illegal activity, and in the case of the Bush Cheney Administration there is not only evidence but admissions of cr!minal actions, that such activity must be investigated. That is required by certain of our laws. This is a unique situation, the Bush cr!minal enterprise on the scale that it operated is unique to our history.

Actually it appears that if any knew it was maybe 4 of each party and their knowledge was very very limited and did not appear to be specific as to the acts of torture.

I have to wonder how the Republicans think they are going to make good on this threat to investigate the Attorney General without holding any committee chairmanships. Are they going to do it with Republican chaired subcommittees? But the larger committee can cut off the subcommittee's funds by a simple majority vote. So the real threat would seem to be investigation of Holder in some theoretical future Republican Congress. Not too convincing. And if they do investigate, what are they going to find? That the Attorney General refused to accept IOKIYAR as an excuse for breaking the law? This is just the usual Republican bluster and political posturing.

If the cost of an investigation into the Bush administration ordering torture and committing war crimes is expanding the investigation to include other elected officials who are sworn to uphold the laws of our nation, so be it. We elect people to as representatives, not as untouchables.
We should not live in fear.

If the Attorney General initiates an investigation of illegal activity by the Bush Administration, the GOP will start their own investigation? Will the GOP hire their own investigation team? Sounds like an empty threat to me.

We have a Congress that is really working for the citizens of the US. Not! Investigate possible violations to the Constitution and we will investigate you. One would think they won a majority in the last election. Are the Republicans going to do anything constructive the next two years or just continue to be the opposition to everything. Steele, Rush, Hannity and what's his face...Guy who cried on TV because he "just love my country."

I was shocked how much U.S. journalists approved of torture by saying it saved lives. That doesn't make any difference torture is torture, it doesn't matter on who and why it's illegal and people who made this possible should be brought to court and than would the ICC in The Hague be the best possible court.
