I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Adult film star Stormy Daniels talked with MSNBC's Contessa Brewer on Friday about her possible run to replace Louisiana Senator David Vitter in 2010.

Daniels was recruited to run through an effort called Draft Stormy, which she says she initially discounted as a political stunt by a "group of rogue fans." After realizing the group wasn't a joke, she decided to give the idea some real thought.

"The response was so overwhelmingly positive," she said. "I was getting flooded with email and messages from people wanting to talk to me. People, people saying they really needed me to do this, that they would do whatever it takes to help get David Vitter out of office, and I thought, you know this is obviously a great opportunity for me to get my voice out about the things I really care about."

Daniels told Brewer that her top concerns would be helping the economy of Louisiana and continuing her work to get rid of child pornography online.

Daniels said she realized that not everyone would take her run for office seriously, but that she could have a positive influence on the race regardless.

"You know the less seriously opponents take me, the easier it is for me to sneak up on them," Daniels said. "And maybe it will inspire someone else who is extremely qualified and who is the best person for the state to do the job. Maybe it will encourage that person to step up and run too."

Daniels said she just finished her listening tour and plans to spend the weekend thinking about whether or not she wants to run.

If she doesn't make it in Lousiana I'm sure Silvio Berlusconi could find a position for her in his cabinet.

Instead of being the recipient, she'll be dishing it out. Get that strap on out, Stormy.

To BayouBorn:
I am enjoying reading your comments. Your opinion please; La. was the last "blue" state in the deep south. Is that fair to say? If so, then do you think, as a La citizen, that the Katrina debacle was intentional on the part of the Bush WH as a way to change the state's demographics, or more specifically, NOLA's demographics to insure Republican electoral victories. Vitter is the first GOP senator since reconstruction and the Bush WH did put Karl Rove in charge of overseeing relief operations in the gulf coast area after Katrina.
I know that sounds like tin foil hat conspiract theory, but I'm old enough to know that republicans will do anything to gain/hold political power and Rove was instrumental in getting Reps elected in Al. and TX in the 90s.

Thanks for the insight.

Noax

Actually, you could have a point if you look at the pre-Katrina and post-Katrina governors elections . Take pre-Katrina, Jindal lost against Kathleen Blanco because of the vote of New Orleans put her over the top, also when the refugees were allowed to vote Mayor Nagin was returned to office in N.O. However, after the diaspora of people from Katrina and from Rita, the demographics have changed dramatically. Jindal was able to seize victory in the post-Katrina environment on buyer's remorse over Blanco appearing weak, the Bush indictments that La government was corrupt and hindering the relief efforts, and b/c many of the Katrina refugees were not allowed to vote. As for Vitter he just took advantage of the post-Katrina and Rita environment. So you never know, you could be on to something.

However, I desperately want to think my government would not be so callous as to cause that kind of pain, for a fleeting chance at political power...Nevertheless, I was not blind to the rampant cronyism AND utter incompetence of the Bush administration-- putting the head of a race horse breeding agency over FEMA, and then blaming Louisiana's government b/c your crony can not get the job done is the horrible truth of the Bush policy of " The Bucks Stops... Over There, There, no; There--Keep it going!!" . Trading pain and catastrophe for power, is the most vile offense against the people that I can imagine.

Vitter has a long history of paying women to do things.

Maybe he can pay Ms. Daniels not to run.

"And maybe it will inspire someone else who is extremely qualified and who is the best person for the state to do the job." From her wording, Stormy is saying that she is "extremely qualified". For what? Hard to believe we'd put a porn star in the Senate, but stranger things happen in D.C. every day.

I thought we'd seen all the nutcases in Congress already -- Bachmann, Foxx, Inhofe...-- but she'd make a colorful addition. Bring it on Louisiana. It will make Jindal look sane in comparison.

It sounded to me like she's hoping someone who really IS qualified to run so she can back out.

Never mind her resume - what are her politics? A porn star would be a refreshing change from all the closeted, 'wide-stance' hypocrites who have sex with men but vote against gay rights.
