CQ Politics :

Republican activists remain confident that Minnesota's Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty will help Norm Coleman continue his fight to be declared the winner of the state's deadlocked 2008 Senate race.

Pawlenty "will fight like hell" to delay certifying Democrat Al Franken the winner of the race, should Coleman, a Republican, lose his appeal pending before the state Supreme Court and move to take his case to the federal courts, said Sarah Janecek, a Republican commentator and publisher of the newsletter "Politics in Minnesota."

Isn't this illegal, interfering with an election by an elected official?

It is time to start flooding Pawlenty's office with requests that he sign the certification...

So let me get this straight, because someone who is a republican strategist says that pawlenty will most likely do something even though there is no evidence of it means pawlenty is going to do it and that pawlenty should be kicked out of office for not doing something he is accused of doing and for not seating Al Franklin even though by State law it would be Illegal for pawlenty to seat Al Franklin.

So for all those blaming Pawlenty, I have a question for you, what do you want him to do? He can't seat Al Franklin by law, and just because someone who is not pawlenty spokesperson and is nothing more than a strategist doesn't mean pawlenty is going to do what that strategist says.

If I'm not mistaken, Minnesota law says that after the state supreme court ruling, he should sign the certification. If he refuses, and is in violation of the law, he should be removed.

If he were looking out for his state - which means seeing to it that they have equal representation - he'd have pressured Coleman to throw in the towel after the recount. Coleman LOST.

Well you are mistaken, currently right now the lawsuits are not over and so by law Pawlenty can't do anything. Currently right now Minensota does have equal representation with amy doing twice the work load. Why should any governor pressure any candidate to quite a race when by law they every right to be doing what they are doing? Why should a governor get involved in a senate race? To be honest I don't think Governor Tim pawlenty should interfer in the senate race at all. Let the court system work its way through this mess.

Considering that certain aspects of the Rethug party demanded that Illinois certify Burris, I find this to be so hypocritical of the Rethugs.

After all, decisions are decisions aren't they?

Not to the Greedy Old Pervs. The only decisions that count are the ones they want.

Hey Pawlenty!

We Minnesotans are not going to sit back and watch you continue to let the Republican party screw us out of our second senate seat (Al Franken).

If you want to continue playing the Republican game of playing politics and sandbagging a senate seat that Al Franken has already won then you can forget being re-elected as Gov and your Presidential hopes will be in the dumper along with it.

You can take that to the bank, Pawlenty.

Why isn't anyone enraged at Mark Ritchie, Secretary of State of Minnesota, who also has to sign the certificate. She has also said he won't sign it until this plays out in the court as stated in the MN election laws. He's also a Democrat.

I voted for Franken, I know Franken won, but I don't want him getting the seat other than by following our election laws.

There's a difference between the two: Ritchie has stated categorically that he WILL sign the certificate once the SC has rendered its verdict and declared (Franken) the winner (Franken) of the election, whoever that might be (Franken). Pawlenty hems and haws when he is asked about whether he will sign the certificate then and this article is kind of stating that he won't. If it does go to Federal court, it could take years before Franken is seated. I don't think that will happen, but that's where the anger is coming from.

73% of the people in Minnesota wants Coleman to concede and Pawlenty is still stalling for purely political reasons?

It seems inevitable that Minnesota will not only get a Democratic Senator, but they will be getting a NEW Governor (Democratic we hope) ............. With 73% of Minnesotans fed up with this deliberately long and drawn out process, and with Pwalenty aiding and abetting the nonsense , the chances for him being re-elected is slim to none.

You're denying your entire state the representation that they voted for? Wow, I think the folks in Minnesota need to deny you any further paychecks as their governor, since you are clearly not representing them. That's not right. Typical repub, party first constituents last.

The voters should "fight like hell" to have Pawlenty recalled should he keep denying them representation in Washington.

Oh God, I hope he does! Anything that these lemmings do to weaken the G.NO.P.'s brand further is definitely a plus for our side! Keep up the good work "Conservatives"!

The Republican mission statement must be to make fools of themselves as often as possible. Do they really think this kind of stubborn obstructionism is getting them anywhere at all?

Is there a provision for recall elections in Minnesota?

What about a straight up impeachment? I would think a clever Dem or two from the state could throw a scare into him by claiming he is not working in the best interest of the citizens.
