When G.W was first elected he had the support of the Arab community in the U.S. That quickly vanished because Islamic extremest attack the U.S. I do believe in a crisis situation Obama will do the same. Then we can talk about how popular he will be in the Middle East. I know many of you think Obama will fix the economy end the wars and give us a better standing in the world and I hope you are right. But when push comes to shove he will support the U.S and our allies in every way!!

The percentage difference is probably the 21% Republican Party. Get rid of them, we might have world peace.

Why do you think the Arabs love him? Obama is no friend of Israel or this country. He's a little lost boy and doesn't know where he was born.

Stop mixing the US and Israel together like theyre the same state. Israel is a separate country.

Israels problems with the world are of its own creation.

America finally has a popular president-- worldwide. Rethugs can't handle that he's a democrat, the opposite of Bush and their current GOP failures..

It all adds up. Obama is one of them and not one of us. What do i mean by that? He's a Muslim, hates this country and wants to destroy our way of life. And yes, he's NOT a US born citizen! That story will never go away.

Well, goes to prove that American born people do not know how to run America. With that analogy maybe an American should never be elected again.

Oh by the way who were those foreigners that came over by ships and took my ancestorial land?

This is not surprising. Obama bowed to the King of the KSA. This is exactly what the Arabs want a more submissive US. We can really expect some high gas prices now as Arab states will see how far they can extend their advantage.

Obama's Green Economy is all about weaning the US from foreign energy sources. You call that submissive?

Stick to teleprompters and birth certificates.

What plan? Yes, he has spoken of such but are there ways in place to effect such a policy? We will pay high prices by not using our own resources and cut back our lifestyles or pay more taxes for his plans but there are no effective replacements available to reduce our dependence on foreign energy. You will continue to stick to talking points but you could try to learn on your own.

Maybe it's because the Arab people finally see a man who contradicts the arrogance and ignorance that US Presidents have demonstrated toward them in the past. A man who may disagree vehemently with their policies, but who nonetheless respects their cultures and rich histories, and yet does not confuse respect with submissiveness.

It may also be because they can honor a man who will bow to the King of Saudi Arabia as an expression of respect for the culture and people of that country, much more than they can honor a group of white men and their black token who persist in bowing to the likes of Rush Limbaugh!

Who has the bigger A$$ and who's the bigger A$$-kisser?

And unless I'm mistaken, gas prices rose beyond anything we'd ever see under the Bush and Cheney administration! Apparently, they were doing a lot more than bowing with the leaders of the oil-rich nations that shared with Bush and Cheney the profits they enjoyed!

Excellent post!

We've seen Bush/Cheney bully their decisions to failed fruition. Decisions that weren't supported by intelligence or respect for the middle class, other countries, or our planet. National policies that don't treat people of other countries, cultures, etc. with respect are inherently failures.

That is your opinion and you do not hold America with respect. You supported Saddam and the ways women are treated in the Arab world. And I agree, the US cannot export democracy. If people do not want to be free, we cannot make them free. You confuse politics with foreign relations. US presidents do not bow to royality. Our country was founded on the fact that royality cannot rule the people. You are submissive and like the freedom of your chains. But not all in the US agree with you, yet.

Maybe, just maybe it has something to do with the fact that Obama opposed the war from the very beginning and courageously took a stand against it, unlike just about everyone else in American politics. Arabs don't like us also because our government does whatever Israel wants it to do; we do nothing for the Palestinians and just sort of stand by while they get abused.

Which begs the question: was the U.S. ever "popular" with them? And really, does being "popular" matter at all in international relations? It is the elected official's duty to always put the interests of his electorate first -- and the last time I checked it was the American people who elected Barack Obama president, not the international community. Therefore, the POTUS should put the interests of America first, ahead of that of other nations. Or should this not be the case?

This is off-topic, but "begs the question" is a logical fallacy rather than a literal request. It means that the proposition to be proved is based on a premise which is itself unproved. For example:

Premise: POTUS must always put the interests of his electorate first.
Fact: Obama is the elected POTUS.
Therefore: Obama must put the interest of the American people first.

Except that roughly half of the electorate usually do not vote for any particular POTUS, and they may disagree about where their true interests lie. If the electorate is badly split on a specific issue, whose interest does POTUS put first? GWB proved that.

"Therefore, the POTUS should put the interests of America first, ahead of that of other nations."

The fact that other nations like President Obama more than they like the US in general does not in any way - not even with the wildest stretch of one's imagination - suggest that President Obama is not putting the interests of America first. What it does suggest is that President Obama is restoring America's integrity and the respect for our country's leadership that Bush destroyed, yet which is essential to international relations!

President Obama was elected as the leader of our nation and the free world. He's not only America's President, he's the world's President; and there's nothing wrong with the fact that the world likes and respects him as much as we do.

Post from eraofpeace
Reading some of the comments here, it is clear that some believe that America cannot be a great country without instilling fear in other nations and wielding a big stick as the world's enforcer. Why can't we understand that for the sake of our children we have to at least make an effort to reduce global con.flict?
Response to eraofpeace: One of the reasons America is a great country is that by sacrifice of blood and treasure it frees other nations. We did so in World War II, taking no territory for ourselves. We've freed 50 million Muslims, again taking no land for ourselves. But thanks to a press that's in the pocket of the opposition we get no credit for it. The President's Apology tour and apparent desire to dismantle our safeguards will do nothing except leave us open to attack. While I sympathize with what I believe to be your sentiment, if we really care about our children, we will halt our journey down this road. There are some nasty people out there. You can never be prepared for peace unless you're armed for war. http://theclosetconservative.com
