Rep. Pete Sessions, head of the House Republican committee tasked with electing more GOP members, has a unique theory as to why unemployment continues to rise: Obama wants to wipe out capitalism.

Deep into a New York Times item Monday about rising jobless numbers comes a theory that the Times gently refers to as an "argument" that "may indeed face an uphill fight."

Sessions told the Times that Obama's plan is to "diminish employment and diminish stock prices." By doing so, Obama "intended to inflict damage and hardship on the free enterprise system, if not to kill it" as part of a "divide and conquer" strategy to consolidate power.

The Times then follows with another understated gem: "Polls offer little evidence that Americans are prepared to accept those arguments."

So is Obama part of some communist sleeper cell intent on destroying America? For Sessions, it's nothing new to think of politics in terrorist terms -- only in the past Sessions has argued that the Republican Party ought to emulate terrorists, not that Obama already does.

The GOP, Sessions famously argued in February, ought to model its "insurgency" after the Taliban. "Insurgency, we understand perhaps a little bit more because of the Taliban," he said.

"And that is that they went about systematically understanding how to disrupt and change a person's entire processes. And these Taliban -- I'm not trying to say the Republican Party is the Taliban. No, that's not what we're saying. I'm saying an example of how you go about is to change a person from their messaging to their operations to their frontline message. And we need to understand that insurgency may be required when the other side, the House leadership, does not follow the same commands, which we entered the game with."

Asked to clarify if he was indeed suggesting House Republicans model themselves after the Taliban, he said: "I simply said one can see that there's a model out there for insurgency."

A Sessions spokesman didn't immediately return a call. An NRCC spokesman stood by the remark:

"The Chairman was simply reiterating what many members of the Democratic Party have echoed over the past several weeks, which is that one-party dominance in Washington has further damaged our economy and undercut our country's free enterprise system."

It's past time to destroy capitalism in its current form. Look what it has done to millions of us!

It certainly needs to be better regulated at least.

Lincoln said, "If you want to truly test a man's character, give him power." Today, corporate interests are seen as having "personhood" in the eyes of the law, and their character has been tested in this way.

Corporate power is not only greater than the power of any individuals, it is greater than sovereign nations. We have allowed international corporations to scoff at Congress, our laws, and any form of social contract with the people. We have un-elected powerful figures that wield control over almost every aspect of our lives.

I'm starting to depress myself...

Your comment begs me to repeat my favorite quote. FDR told the Congress:

"the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism—ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power"

Thank God, if they actually followed a moderate stance they might have won.

And why not?

The alternative is almost too horrible for them to comprehend: they really DON'T understand "how the world works." Their view of things is fundamentally flawed.

Hey Seshy Seshy Sessions... nice attempt to distract from the truth that the collapse was caused by Bush, on Bush's watch, and that Bush's solution was to try to force a 3 page simpleton policy on everyone, warning us that 3 days of debating his idiot policy was too long to wait because "the economy would suffer irreversible damage." One dreads to know what the simple boob would have done with the Social Security funds, if he got his grubby claws on them.

One thing is clear; the GOP will try anything to persaude you their incompetence isn't to blame for our current crapstorm.

Lets see now the entire 8 years Bush was in the whitehouse it was always some democrats fault as to everything that was wrong. Hiow many times did we here but, but, but, Clinton. Now that it is time GW should be held accountable for his economic Misdeeds it is all Obamas fault. In fact it was his plan all along accoriding to this republcian, he planned all this opver the last 8 years huih after Bush got elected Obama started to plot this economic meltdown. Course to republicans it doesn't matter if Obam had anything to do with it as long as they can blame yet anoteher democrat. Hopefully people are awake now and paying attention. Of course I have heard at least 3 people today say ya it's Obamas fault. What can you do when at least 48 percent of this contry are morons.

Now if Sessions means that capitalism is being destroyed by Obama's continuation of the Bush policy of corporate welfare, I find Sessions to be extremely sane indeed. Unfortunately, neither is this something new nor particularly socialist. Rather it is corporatist. It is definitely not capitalist, though.

News Flash:
Unemployment is going up, and don't tell anybody, but, we know.
Its no secret. Had Georgie and his little band of misfits not screwed up the economy so bad, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.
