Attorney General

Next week, a coalition of conservative legal groups will host a "Libel Lawfare: Silencing Criticism of Radical Islam," a conference on how "Islamist lawfare" is imperiling free speech in America. Confirmed speakers include neoconservative foreign policy guru Frank Gaffney, lawyer Andrew C. McCarthy (who turned down an invitation to a White House counterterrorism conference to protest administration policy), Islam critic David Pipes, and... Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.), who will give the opening speech.

e Los Angeles Times' Tina Daunt writes about an unexpected beneficiary of Hollywood's Democratic money machine: Arlen Specter. Even though he's now a Democrat, Janet and Jerry Zucker's May 28 fund-raising luncheon for the Pennsylvania senator has turned into a hot ticket, Daunt says that Specter "may be the only Democrat ever feted by Hollywood with a 100% voting record from the Chamber of Commerce and an 86% score from the National Assn. of Manufacturers. You can't make this stuff up." this from may 15th's "Variety".

Does anyone else get the impression that most in Washington have their political heads up their buttocks?

This jerk has got to go. He's worse than useless, he's another glaring embarrassment for the United States of America. He should have his political career ended by the next Democratic primary.
07:12 AM on 05/13/2009
Yes because, you know, God forbid someone say something bad about the Islamist's. That might be...I don't know, insulting or something.

Specter is a joke because he is a two-faced liar. Speaking out against Islamist's who are busy trying to rewrite civilization in their image is not, in itself, a reason to dislike someone.

Forget waiting for the primaries. Can we start impeachment proceedings on Specter now?
We need this like a forest fire needs gasoline.

I love how it's acceptable to call Christianity a hateful religion and say all these bad things about it, but when it comes to Islam, nobody can speak out against it, and if you do, you're racist. Why is that?

Critiquing the hypocritical premises of a politicized Christianity that condones torture but denies a legal monogamous relationship between gays is pointing out the inconsistency between what Jesus said, "Treat others they way that God has treated you," and what some Christians do. That is not persecution, that is.....note to self....what's wrong with their so called witness.

It seems to me that the Great Spirit is fairly hands off--not a control freaky God at all. In fact, I would venture to say that the Great Spirit pretty much allows free choice beyond the consequences and backlash of hurtful choices.

We are all a bit weary of the Neo-Christians trying to make America a theoracy.

I'm a believer too.

Christians didn't help themselves when they didn't call Bush and his buddies on the carpet for Lying to get us in to war with Iraq. Lying is right up there with abortion in Gods eyes. My bible says ALL liars will be cast in the lake of fire. Thats A L L Liars.
The Great unwashed Southern Rethug gave Bush and company a free pass on lying.

what about neo-Muslims, or Islamist trying to make the world a Sharia theocracy? I agree Christian fundamentalism is awful, but radical Islam is far worse. Pat Robertson and Falwell, while their reasons for 9/11 are awful, did not carry out 9/11, as did Osama Bin Laden, along with all the little muftis, mullahs, sheiks, and imams. I hate radical Islam because like fundy Christianity, they want to lynch gays, ruin women's rights, limit freedom of speech, etc.

Sure you can! You can speak out against not just Islamists or terrorists or those purportedly threatening the existence of Western civilization as we know it, but also Islam in general (without regard for its manifold expressions), Muslims, mosques, and anything even tangentially connected with Muslims. I haven't heard many news stories about the construction of churches being blocked here in the US, Christians being physically assaulted because of their religion, threatened, or told to "go the f*** back to where you came from", pastors or Christian entertainers kicked off of flights entering the US, Christians pulled from flights for praying, detained for wearing a t-shirt inscribed with a biblical language. There are vast government databases and security procedures that target virtually anyone with a Middle Eastern-sounding name or who has visited the Middle East or who collects charitable contributions for Middle Eastern causes, suggestions that Muslims be interred should there be another terrorist attack on US soil, countless blogs and websites devoted to legitimizing the continued legal and cultural assault on Islam in America, at least one 24-hour news network devoted to slandering Islam and attacking Muslims, anti-Islam speaking tours, shelves upon shelves of anti-Islam books at the local bookstore, and the direct military occupation of at least two Muslim nations and the occupation by proxy or by client of about 80% of the rest of the Muslim world.

So there is plenty of room for Americans to exercise their hatred of Islam.

I'm ready to give money to Sestak to run against Specter.
09:52 PM on 05/12/2009
Specter may walk like a democrat and quack like one but he ain't no democrat....democrats will regret accepting him in their party...
09:23 PM on 05/12/2009
Because Xian extremists are so much more patriotic.

Remember, Democratic voters, only you can halt the spectre of disassociative faux-Democrats. Vote -- and be able to look at yourself in the mirror!

We have to do everything we can to get rid of this piece of trash. He will wind up doing more harm to Democratic Party than good. I am also not too sure we need Harry Reid around either . Pennsylvania needs to send him packing
