Colbert Eats Cat Food (VIDEO)

Stephen Colbert Cat Food

Last night, Colbert mocked Americans who couldn't tell dog food from pâté. According to a recent study, 83% of participants mistook the low-grade animal food for the French delicacy, prompting Colbert to blame high-fructose corn syrup. He went on to say that when he wants pâté, he only chooses the fanciest of feasts. He then proceeded to whip out a tin of Fancy Feast cat food and eat it.

We are really, really hoping he found some way to switch the cat food out of that sealed can before air time, or else our dream of one day making out with Stephen Colbert will forever be marred by the image of the man downing Fancy Feast then licking water from a saucer.

The man is now certifiable. I have cats and open cans all the time but would NEVER do this. Let's hope it was just some can of mystery meat, you know, lips and a$$holes. In any case, he should be knighted for his bravery. Bless you, Sir Stephen.

Anyone notice the oral element in Colbert's comedy? He's grossed me out a few times now. Haven't both him and Jon done Baconaisse? That outdoes cat food in my book.

He should have put some Dijon mustard on the cat food as a jab at Hannity.
01:19 AM on 05/13/2009
I mean, come ON...what man puts Dijon mustard on a burger? Did someone not give Obama the memo that doing so would only perpetuate the tres fey image he got for his lousy bowling score and his bitter comment?

I can't all these people that think that they must have replaced the food in the can. It's obvious the label was replaced.

Last night was a banner night for the Comedy Central "news" shows. Jon Stewart was amazingly funny and informative with "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" and "Excuse Me, Your Dick Is Out" (http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=226623&title=excuse-me-your-dick-is-out), and then Colbert followed with the pet food "story". Total comedy gold!!!

Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess.

It probably was real cat food and, technically, nothing wrong with it.

It is made exactly the same way as canned food (like potted meat sandwich spread) for humans: It's prepared (in this case pureed), cooked and then sealed in a metal can. The sealed can is placed in an autoclave and further cooked under pressure at 280 degrees Fahrenheit (138 degrees Celsius) for a period of time which effectively Pasteurizes it. This kills bacteria but not necessarily the taste ... it is "faux pate", after all ... YUCK!

(DON'T try this at home. Both heat AND pressure are needed otherwise the can will explode.)

This is a timely topic.

The woman at our local animal shelter told us that not only are people giving up their animals because they can't afford to feed them - but that many of them are eating dog food themselves.

The can wasn't sealed. They emptied it, replaced it with tuna or deviled ham something, and pushed the lid back down flat. He opened it way too easily for that can to have been sealed.

Colbert tells a lot of them.
It's called a comedy show.

It looked sealed to me. The cans are not difficult to open.

It seemed pretty clear that what he ate was not Fancy Feast cat food since it did not look like any Fancy Feast I have seen. It would have been easy for them to put a Fancy Feast label on a can of pate or other canned meat product.

Yeah. Maybe it was a ground meat byproduct; maybe it was Spam. Would that be better or worse?

PS - I've had Spam and eggs more than once in my life.

How does your cat look? Give me a break. It could not harm anyone.
01:27 PM on 05/12/2009
Now we have the answer to that centuries-old question: Where does beautiful hair come from? Fancy Feast.
