Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth In Broadway's 'Addams Family'

NEW YORK — "The Addams Family" has found its merry macabre menagerie for Broadway.

The show's producers say Nathan Lane will play Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth will be Morticia in the musical based on the popular goulish cartoons in The New Yorker.

"The Addams Family" will open April 8 at a theater to be announced. Previews begin March 4 after a pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago. Also in the cast are Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Fester, Jackie Hoffman as Grandma and Zachary James as Lurch.

The show features music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa (LIP'-ah), while Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (EL'-iss), who wrote "Jersey Boys," will provide the book.

I was at the press conference they had for Addams Family here in Chicago yesterday and almost fell off my seat when they announced who would be in the cast. This is going to be really great. We got a chance to hear three of the songs which also were really quite good.

Bebe has the perfect skin for Morticia. Her skin is like flawless Porcelain. Nathan Lane is fantastic and definitely pull off the Gomez character! This would be fantastic to see!

I like the show and the (first) movie, but I think it would be cool if they went back to the original Addams cartoons. Obviously, there isn't much of a plot you can get from single-panel cartoons, but they had a definitely freaky atmosphere.
