A member of the Republican National Committee told me Tuesday that when the RNC meets in an extraordinary special session next week, it will approve a resolution rebranding Democrats as the "Democrat Socialist Party."

I envision the GOP making signs for the next tea party with "Democrat Socialists" emblazoned on them, but written like Jethro Bodine,would do it, with backwards letters and mispellings!

To be fair to the laughable losers, this was not their first choice of names. Unfortunately, the name “Dootyhead Party” was the intellectual property of Ms Pfarts’ fourth grade class at Paule Myfinger Elementary School in Pratt Falls, Kansas. Outflanked again, poor souls.

I think the Republican Fascist Bigotry Party is making a mistake here.

Not just because they inevitably will be unflatteringly renamed right back (would that we would rise above such inanity, but we won’t) but because they are giving socialism a good name.

Especially since their talking heads keep modifying the term to be “European-style” socialism, the image that most readily comes to mind is Sweden. And the images one associates with Sweden are not threadbare poorly tailored clothes and cold gruel but Volvos, Ikea, gummy fish candies, ABBA and attractive blond people. And the foolish ones insist that 1) we are practically there already 2) that what President Obama has been saying and doing since 1/20/09 represents socialism and that 3) Obama and the whole of the Democratic Party are consciously socialists implementing the socialism of their long held socialist dreams. Socialistically. Now. To anyone saner than Glenn Beck, that sounds, let’s say, a little overstated.

The real problem – for them – is that most people kinda like Volvos, inexpensive and slightly offbeat furniture, candy that sticks to their teeth and bubbly music – at least in moderation. They like attractive blonds, too. And they really like Barack Obama. Lots. And things seem to be looking up a bit or at least not tanking quite as fast as before. Consumer confidence, right track/wrong track, better/worse in six months, the stock market – the arrows are up.

So – if this is socialism …..
