NBC Chicago highlights a nasty piece of police brutality that was caught on tape in El Monte, California. After leading police on a high-speed chase, a suspect flees on foot but quickly realizes he can't escape and lies on the ground with his hands and legs spread awaiting arrest. A cop runs over and promptly, and viciously, kicks him in the face. As NBC Chicago notes, the police added insult to injury by high-fiving each other after the incident. More details can be found here.

On the other hand. People I would have no problem seeing getting kicked in the face.

Bill O'Reilley, Sean Hannity, Michele Malkin Dick Cheney, most republican pundits Shia Lebouf, the whole cast of Fox and Friends, Neil Cavuto (wheelchair or not) that jerkoff judge from dancing with the stars, papparazis, Doctor Phil. Eric Cantor, John Boehner, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, that Levin guy, people responsible for erectile disfunction commercials, Mark Cuban, Glenn Beck . couch potatoes who criticise athletes, that guy from the Catholic League. Judge Judy, Kanye West, the guy who formulated the Tea Baggin' movement Monica Crowley Laura Ingrahm. The list goes on, and on, and on, and on. That's like one tenth of the list.

A suburban LA cop smacks some law-breaking fool, who is surprised? Have you all read the news article? The guy is a GANG MEMBER. I suppose if the guy had just shot and killed someone--but promptly surrendered--all of you would be jumping to his side in support if the same thing happened to him. I am sure the victims crime and violence perpetrated by the El Monte Flores gang are sleeping soundly knowing that all of you are up-in-arms for the fair treatment of this particular gangster.

"OH, what if it happened to YOU???" I don't break laws and endanger lives, so I am not worried in the slightest.

You just don't get it. If you were mistaken for a gang member then kicking in your face it would be justified, right? So you would just brush off the abuse and forgive and forget. The judicial system is there for a reason.

in a country where we have people defending the illegal act of torture, i am not surprised to see the Police kick and beat a suspect who has surrendered is not resisting arrest and is laying prone on the ground in a defenseless position open to any attack.
yes that is so like legal and american.
what happened to our morals ethics
my goodfness this is a decade of corruption like i have never seen

now that was a kick in the teeth -- a little well earned on the spot justice, but, unfortunately, caught on tape. now the bad guy is going to get a payday and the fired up cop a suspension.

So, if the cops mistook you for a criminal and booted you in the teeth, you'd be ok with that, right?

That's a straw-man and you bloody well know it. The police officer in question didn't "mistake" anyone for a criminal; the guy was trying to evade the police and endangering countless civilian lives in the process with his dangerous driving. In running he *was* resisting arrest. He hit at least one parked vehicle. Pray tell, what would it have taken for him to deserve a boot in the head? If he'd run down a pregnant lady or a child or your grandfather getting out of that sideswiped car, would you jump to his defense then? To try and liken the situation to some 'poor innocent' being abused when they've done nothing wrong is disingenuous.

He was reckless with the lives of others-- maybe no one *you* care about, at least not this time-- but he forfeited kid-glove treatment when he decided to take endanger real innocents taking a shot at escaping justice.

More to come when the crisis gets worse. These stormtroopers will be on the front lines in armor butchering people looking 4 food while bloated bankers build moats around their mansions. Hey Middle class ostriches! It's over 4 you. Join the ranks of the unemployable. The rust belt is not Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania..........it's America sad to say. 40 years of peeling back the New Deal and Millions more to feed. Use that big flag to wrap yourself in when the heat is off in your foreclosed squat.

This type of conduct brings sympathy to the criminal instead of highlighting the crime. That is not where the spotlight should be.

I don't know how to break this to you, but aggravated assault (viciously kicking someone who is not resisting arrest) is a far more serious crime than what the victim did.

The guy is a gang member. I know LA cops step over the line, but as for a known gang member fleeing police while flashing gang signs; you may consider him a victim, but I don't.

big surprise cops often act creepy, I know being a cop is hard - mostly because you have to control your emotions in these high adenaline situations but this is what they are not doing in this and all the other stories and video, bad cops are sick and erode our democracy, big surprise cops are often vile....

It's highly likely that a kick like this will cause either a snapped neck vertebrae (quadriplegic) or severe brain damage (lifetime of medicare). Well when the taxpayers foot that bill there will be less money for police protection.

There was no need to kick him in the face. If the policeman felt threatened, he should have kept a distance with that gun of his. The suspect was in a prone position and made no sudden movements once the police came into close range. There is PTSD in law enforcement, but it should be addressed while sitting at a desk. Releasing energy through violence only makes things worse. It is similar to the abused becoming the abuser. There are times where violence is needed and a good cop knows when that is and when that isn't.

Well said! Plus, policemen are trained to cope with violence...unlike us civilians.

I do not like the double standard here but I guess until that happen to you or your child then and only then will it mean something to you. The police officers was wrong. The wrong for 1 kicking the guy in the head and beating him while they hand cuffed him. If I was that guy I would sue the officers and the city because that clearly is brutality. That is not a excuse because you are upset he ran or because his driving endangered others. Nobody was hurt and you can what if all day but nobody was hurt. The guy was on the ground all the officer had to do was hold the gun on him and wait till another officer arrived to cuff him and check him. The police officers deserve to be fired and given jail time because if you can justify this imagine what else they could get away because of the heat of the moment?

I haven't read all of the post but I'm sure someone has asked, "Who would Jesus kick in the head laying spread-eagle on the ground after a high-speed car chase?"

It looked to me like the cop was making sure he wasn't hiding a gun in his hair.

I also thought I saw a "Kick Me" sign taped on the back of the guy's shirt.

The suspect was obviously in a "fighting stance" and displaying signs of defiance and aggression, too.

The officers should receive commendations for bravery and a promotion. Without the video they would have.
