NBC Chicago highlights a nasty piece of police brutality that was caught on tape in El Monte, California. After leading police on a high-speed chase, a suspect flees on foot but quickly realizes he can't escape and lies on the ground with his hands and legs spread awaiting arrest. A cop runs over and promptly, and viciously, kicks him in the face. As NBC Chicago notes, the police added insult to injury by high-fiving each other after the incident. More details can be found here.

My friends when will you realize that the men and women that protect you on a daily basis whether Police or Military react this way for a reason? They deal with the worst people in the world RAPISTS, MURDERS, CHILD MOLESTERS AND TERRORISTS. When will you learn that these people get down to there level so you don't have to? When will you realize by doing these things they keep you safe but sometimes suffer greatly for things they do to protect you. Why do you think our Military and Police have such problems with stress and PTSD? It's because they witness violence up close and personal, and it's easy for you to sit here and judge but you have no concept of life and death instantly unless you have been there. Do you know what it is like to come upon a car wreck where a whole family has been slaughtered by a felon alluding the police. That police officer could have witnessed that and triggered that response. No excuse for what he did but there are explanations. What if he killed 5 children in a crosswalk many would still blame him but many more would not. Let's understand in context who they deal with, that felon was not an average citizen out for a drive. There are like any where a few bad apples but most I believe do their job correctly and professionally.

Yes, embrace police brutality! These aren't well trained professionals, they are the O.G.

Right. So in context, the bad apples should not be on the force. They give the rest a bad name.

You Fan Of Torture (FOT) too?

It is precisely because of the people these officers deal with that they have been trained, and we depend on them to behave professionally.

If not, the system breaks down and the criminals gain control.

That's the law enforcement climate. If you don't do the macho posturing thing in order to let your fellow officers know that "you're one of the boys," then you are seen as weak; which may lead to being ostracized by your comrades. Same mentality as the soldiers in gitmo.

Yes, the guy put innocent people at risk and after his day in court will pay dearly for his stupidity. As he should.

However, after he lay down on the grass, giving himself up for arrest, he was viciously assaulted by the first cop (and, it appears, punched in the back by another cop while lying there on the ground).

So there's more than one criminal in the video. If a cop cannot do his job professionally, and becomes just another thug, he should be charged as any citizen and, found guilty, immediately fired.

This happened in California. Can you please point out to me where in the California Penal Code or any other statute it says that stupid people deserve to be kicked in the head after they submit to police authority. If you find something, watch you head.

The SUSPECT surrendered.
He was laying down on his face and was totally defenseless.
The Policeman, then assaults the prisoner and could have easily murdered him.
The video shows the Policeman committing an Assault with a Deadly Weapon; a Shod Foot.
The violent attack on the prisoner could have been fatal, or maimed the suspect who obviously had surrendered and was in a Non-threatening posture, "Spread-eagled" upon the turf.
There are two criminals in the video.
The one lying on the ground who had surrendered to Police.
The Policeman who violently kicked his prisoner in the head with his boot.
The Prisoner needs to go to jail.
The Policeman needs to be disciplined, written-up and directing traffic until his case comes up.

The cop needs to be charged with assault likely to cause great bodily injury, a felony in California (Penal Code section 245(a)(1)). He was also armed with a dangerous or deadly weapon which he was brandishing at the time he committed this assault. He also committed this assault under the color of authority. The cop should get about 4 years in prison.

if you speed the wrong way down a busy street endangering innocent people and the police you get kicked in the face.

what is so surprising about this? that's how it works.

Some of my friends are police officers who are out at this very moment doing there job which can turn deadly at any second. One of them works in LA and he's a pretty liberal guy, but there is so much disrespect and stereotyping because a cop stepped over the line(many of them didn't). Yea, he was wrong, but it's a tough job and he'll be disciplined. Angel pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed by a reckless drunken driver and so have many others. I'm losing my tolerance for those who jeopardize others trying to save their own hide or just driving around after TOO MANY. This style video is offensive as well(repeating kick for effect). Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, and of course Rush Limbaugh use a similar effect in that propaganda style.

If I did that to a cop, how much time would I serve? 10 years? More?

The police should get the same sentence.

Do you think if a bystander simply witnessed this instead of it being videotaped, would they be believed?

Right Chaucea. And the guy laying on the ground would shoot you if you came to his turf and were the wrong ethnic back round. After seeing this gang bangers picture I have a question for you. If this GENTLEMAN was walking around your house would you take the high road?

1. The guy was unarmed

2. He had already surrendered to the police by lying flat on the ground

Are you suggesting that the guy deserved kicking in the face because he was a gang member, or is it because he's Hispanic?
