NBC Chicago highlights a nasty piece of police brutality that was caught on tape in El Monte, California. After leading police on a high-speed chase, a suspect flees on foot but quickly realizes he can't escape and lies on the ground with his hands and legs spread awaiting arrest. A cop runs over and promptly, and viciously, kicks him in the face. As NBC Chicago notes, the police added insult to injury by high-fiving each other after the incident. More details can be found here.

It appears that the police have learned some enhanced in'terror'gation tactics.

Yeah, the cop could have snapped the suspect's spine. Then again, the suspect could have killed several innocent people on that high speed chase. Maybe he'll get the chance next time.

Sometimes you can't tell the good guys from the bad guys. It's even harder when there aren't any good guys.

This guy was having a great time before getting kicked in the head: flashing his gang's sign out the window while leading police on a high speed chase; throwing "unidentified objects out the window" (his stash); going the wrong way down a street and driving on the sidewalk. He could've killed a few people but what's that to him? It's true that the cop shouldn't have kicked him in the head but this guy's behavior sucks also.

damn folks, little rough on the cops eh? These guys are on a tightrope constantly- that lunatic put countless lives at risk -he didn't steal a pack of gum!! The cops are running on 100% adrenaline at that point. Its easy for us to say what we want as we type on our keyboards but they have to deal with the sh*t of society daily. They didn't "rodney king"him. I'm glad you guys are typing and not watching my back while I take my kid to school or go to work.

This is yet another daily, horrific reminder that we live in a patriarchal society full of Alpha cops who get their rocks off of being bullies. I f'ing hate cops and have no respect for them, or authority figures in general, and this is just one example why. He should be fired.

Who would you rather have living next to you:

a) a person who will kill you without any provocation, or
b) a person who will kick you in the face after you endanger the life of everybody in who might get in your way?

Che.ney would defend that by saying "but he's a gang member, who cares if he was helpless and surrendering at that moment?"

he was 'helpless and surrendering' because there are "alpha males" willing to risk their lives to stop him.
that;s the trade-off.

The idiot never should have run in the first place... a little kick in the face is nothing when you're driving down a one way road the wrong way like this fine upstanding American did. How many lives did this guy put at risk on his high speed run from the police? A kick in the face is the least of his worries.

The officer was probably telling the guy to look away from him so that the suspect could be approached in a safer manner to be placed in handcuffs. If a police officer has a gun pointed at you and is giving you commands he or she doesn't have time to wait until you comply when you feel like it.

The Leftists have taken power away from the people and centralized it, as they always do. Since Leftists, either Neocon or Democrat, have little interest in preserving the Constitution and the freedom it demands, we are watching the end of America.

Their just aren't enough Constitutionalists to counter the Neocons and Democrats combined threat.

You are right on with that assessment. Both of the major political parties have no desire to protect and defend the Constitution, just consolidate power and divide the spoils. We, the people, suffer the results.

What does that have to do with the footage? I'll bet the car thief is a Neocon. Get it? Neo CON?

Your use of political labels is somewhat confused at best. I suggest you study up on such political terms. What you are railing against is authoritarianism, which takes place among liberals, conservatives, constitutionalists, theocrats and even some so-called libertarians.

All types of people are capable of being seduced by authoritarianism. It starts when they think that they have the one and only answer to problems. I can't remember who it was, but some wise person observed that there are few minds to which a little tyranny is not tempting.

I don't know but maybe this is why police officers get a bum rap in the media until they are slaughtered enmasse by some nut case(s). One or two MORONIC officers unfortunately can translate in to an entire force,

The two officers should be fired and prevented from onwing weapons or holding jobs of leagl authority. I would bet money they have done this type of thing many times before.

The police are expected to behave at a higher standard than the thugs they arrest or else there is no difference between the two. That's what makes us want to look up to them. That they can be professional at times when others are out of control.

These COPS are weak and don't deserve the badges they wear.

Bum rap in the Media? What country do you live in?

While I agree that these fools should be fired, their fellow officers with be out in the "unfreindly" media defending them and thier actions.

I hope that it will only be the police unions doing there usual spiel and not fellow officers supporting this lunacy. But you know what they say...."birds of a feather flock together".

I have never accredited cops with an over abundance of intelligence but I would think that even a cop would have heard the news helicopter above him. I am so glad that this was caught on tape. That cop should be fired on the spot. Isn't there job to "protect and serve" , because I'm fairly sure it isn't to cause permanent spinal injury to a young man lying on the ground who is obviously no longer a threat to anyone. Hell, those cops wear steal toe boots. With as much police brutality our Free society faces I am surprised there are as few riots as there have been.

The victim of this assault was lying face-down, spread-eagle, and completely passive. There is no ordinance that allows an unprovoked attack like this. This was a case of vengeance pure and simple. This is not the first time that it has taken video footage to expose what out of control police officers get away with. People forget quickly enough.

This man is not guilty until proven so. And, if proved to be guilty, the punishment for his crime is decided by a judge and legal precedent, not an adrenaline-pumped police officer. My uncle was a police officer for 27 years. He never brutally kicked an unarmed, surrendering suspect in the crown of the head with deadly force. Wake up lb2. Your lack of empathy says it all.
