MUSKEGON, Mich. — Kate Gosselin, co-star of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8," says it's difficult reading stories about herself.

Recent media reports have focused a harsh spotlight on Kate and her husband, Jon, who star with their eight children on the popular reality show. In recent days, the Gosselins' wholesome on-screen home life has been called into question by reports of extramarital affairs. Both Jon and Kate have denied those accusations.

"This is certainly not what I envisioned I was signing up for," Kate Gosselin said Wednesday during an appearance at the Frauenthal Center, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.

"When I see magazines in stores it's really difficult. It amazes me there is an industry that follows you around and writes stories about you.

"It destroys peoples' lives. I need you to know, don't believe what you read unless you hear it from that person."

On its Web site, Us Weekly recently described an over-friendly relationship between Gosselin and her married bodyguard, Steve Neild, that "caught the attention of her husband _ and has become the talk of many locals" in their Pennsylvania community.

People magazine's Web site quoted Gosselin as saying the couple have been struggling for months.

"This week I'm on the cover of four magazines. One is true, three are not," Kate told her audience.

The Gosselins are on the cover of People, Us Weekly, Star and National Enquirer. She described People's reporting as the most accurate.

She has previously denied having an affair with Neild. Jon Gosselin has denied cheating with a 23-year-old schoolteacher, and he has apologized for putting his family in an "awkward situation."

Kate Gosselin said the stop in Muskegon, located about 35 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, was the last on her travel schedule for a while. She said she plans to spend more time at home.

"The last couple weeks have been interesting," she said. "I had to address that."

TLC's most popular series, which has been on the air for four seasons, attracts an average audience of more than 2.8 million viewers.

The new, 40-week season premieres May 25 with an hourlong edition.

Oh PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEze...
You get no sympathy from me. Have you WATCHED yourself on TV??? If this is not the life you want, then get out. You got your freebies, your million dollar mansion, book deals, magazine covers, and 15 minutes of fame; all at your children's expense. Those that will suffer the most from your antics, gestapo parenting and embarrasing behavior, but just aren't old enough to realize it yet, have suffered enough.
Stop blaming the media, the tabloids, the editing, etc. for your problems,. You bought it, you own it.

You sell your soul and the soul of your children to a "reality" show and then you complain about the consequences?

You should be ashamed of yourself for chronicling your shaky marriage on videotape for the world to see and for your children to regret when they grow up.

It's true, it's a terrible haircut! All the young moms on my husband's side of the family have this ridiculous haircut, it must be what the suburban hairdressers think is chic and easy for moms with young kids. PLEASE STOP!

Attention all suburban stylists: please stop giving your clients this ridiculous look, it's not their fault they don't know any better! If you're all so out of ideas, go back to giving everyone the "Friends" haircut.

I realize that faced with the costs of raising 8, most of them sextuplets could make you consider having a crew in to make a show about your lives as a reasonable solution. But surely there must have been some thought about the consequences of all that celebrity on the children and the family. There is ALWAYS a price for all that $$$ and fame.
I've never watched the show, altho the channel is one I really like. I saw a few clips and saw the bickering between them in the first few of weeks of the first season. It didn't look to me as their marriage could survive the stresses of raising sextuplets, much less doing in front of TV cameras.

Who is this woman and why is she getting ANY attention at all? Can she disappear with a "Del" key, please?

The woman is a control freak, and she's whining because she can't control the media.

When she accepted celebrity (nobody made her put her family on T.V.), she didn't get to say how everyone would respond. There are plenty of people with more pressing problems, such as losing jobs, illness, and other tragedies that are more deserving of sympathy.

The show is BORING!

It was fun to watch how compulsive and neurotic Kate was at first. Her weird abusive behavior towards her husband and the poor, freaked out little kids trying to live up to her Fascist Mommy expectations, carried the second season along. But the dogs and new house were an exercise in desperation. One big yawn.

In fact all the huge family shows are dull as dishwater for twelve. All the fake affairs in the world won't work. It's over....sorry OctoMom.

Whiner indeed.

The name of the show, ""Jon & Kate Plus 8", reminded me of the ABC sitcom "8 simple rules", which starred John Ritter and Katey Sagal and was quietly moved to Fridays, airing after that insipid "Hope and Faith" show because ABC wanted to get rid of it - and it was still the wittiest thing on American television at the time...

Can someone please explain why have a litter of children entitles these doofuses to fame? I mean, there are no great intellectual processes going on here. Just 8 kids. My great grandmother had 17! Course that was back on the farm a lot of years ago. Point is, just biology folks, egg meets sperm. Very simple.

Yeah, yeah, my grandmother had 23! The thing is, they weren't all under the age of 3 at the same time. Our grandmothers made the older kids help take care of the younger ones.

This is a curiosity because it just is not normal for human beings to have litters. Human childhood development is very long and protracted and labor intensive. Having this many is sort of like taking on a majr challenge that most people never experience. I am interested in the same way I am interested in learning how people met other challenges---how NASA figured out how to get CO2 levels down in Appolo 13, for example. IT's not the kind of thing I will ever have to do, but I like watching innovation. So it's interesting to me.

It's just that this Kate woman is so snarky and bitchy ALL of the time, that it's no fun watching her. It's all just cringe-worthy.

Can someone please tell me why Americans eat this crap up with a spoon? With all that's going on in the world today...why do you people watch this stuff?

If you want to watch a family implode......try watching your own family for a while.

This is nothing more than a couple with too many kids ...that turned it into making money off of them, ie the Octo-Mom. Having too many children can ruin any marriage. Hopefully they will fade into oblivion fast. People need to find more to do with their time.....try cleaning your house, volunteer at a hospital, or God forbid pay attention to your own family. Americans need to stop making celebrities out of people trying to make a fast buck.

Please remember rating stats for TV shows like this (crap) are usually greatly exaggerated on purpose, or only gathered during sweeps weeks.

I consider myself a fairly 'average' baby-boomer generation American, and I would not watch ANY of those horrible TLC human breeding farms on TV.

I prefer to live in a state of semi-denial and believe that the vast majority of "average Americans"
find this stuff as putrid and ignorant as I do. Please allow me my rose-colored glasses. ;-)

So she thinks living in the spotlight is tough....I'm sure people who are living in tents would disagree.

It's amazing how regular people are seduced (that's the right word) by television fame only to discover all-too-quickly that they sell the souls in the process.
