Kate Gosselin: Being In Spotlight Is Tough

MUSKEGON, Mich. — Kate Gosselin, co-star of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8," says it's difficult reading stories about herself.

Recent media reports have focused a harsh spotlight on Kate and her husband, Jon, who star with their eight children on the popular reality show. In recent days, the Gosselins' wholesome on-screen home life has been called into question by reports of extramarital affairs. Both Jon and Kate have denied those accusations.

"This is certainly not what I envisioned I was signing up for," Kate Gosselin said Wednesday during an appearance at the Frauenthal Center, The Muskegon Chronicle reported.

"When I see magazines in stores it's really difficult. It amazes me there is an industry that follows you around and writes stories about you.

"It destroys peoples' lives. I need you to know, don't believe what you read unless you hear it from that person."

On its Web site, Us Weekly recently described an over-friendly relationship between Gosselin and her married bodyguard, Steve Neild, that "caught the attention of her husband _ and has become the talk of many locals" in their Pennsylvania community.

People magazine's Web site quoted Gosselin as saying the couple have been struggling for months.

"This week I'm on the cover of four magazines. One is true, three are not," Kate told her audience.

The Gosselins are on the cover of People, Us Weekly, Star and National Enquirer. She described People's reporting as the most accurate.

She has previously denied having an affair with Neild. Jon Gosselin has denied cheating with a 23-year-old schoolteacher, and he has apologized for putting his family in an "awkward situation."

Kate Gosselin said the stop in Muskegon, located about 35 miles northwest of Grand Rapids, was the last on her travel schedule for a while. She said she plans to spend more time at home.

"The last couple weeks have been interesting," she said. "I had to address that."

TLC's most popular series, which has been on the air for four seasons, attracts an average audience of more than 2.8 million viewers.

The new, 40-week season premieres May 25 with an hourlong edition.

Kate, you chose to put your whole life "in the media" and as the mother of 8 children, you should know this as well as anyone: Actions have consequences. I hope you are managing to teach this concept to your children in the rare moments you actually do spend with them nowadays. It's harder the older they get, isn't it? They're not cute little compliant robots any more and it's a lot of hard work. But it's not like catching fish - you can't just throw them back. They have ZERO stability in their lives -- you've seen to that. They appear to have no friends (nor do you). What happened to Bob, Beth & their daughter - ? What happened to Kevin & Jodi and your kids' cousins? You have no relationships with your family members or Jon's relatives. This is NOT healthy.

Epitome of irony: woman who willingly pimps out her kids on national TV, which entails having cameras following them all constantly, is now whining over "cameras following them all constantly" -- seems to me the only difference is control (Kate's #1 issue) and exchange of money (Kate's #2 issue).

It amazes me how much time this woman has to do interviews. My husband and I watched the show a couple of times in the very beginning and we both agreed that this couple was not going to make it. Sadly, it seems that we were right. It's time for these people to get out of the spotlight and spend time as a couple and as a family.

What is interesting is that people are say that she needs to quit working?? She is a working mother...So should all mothers quit their jobs b/c of struggles at home?? As the show progress, John began to work from home and Kate did not work...Know Kate is working and Jon is home... I love their show, i think their kids are beautiful & funny and entertaining... They do need to take a break and work on their issues..I sure every marriage has its ups and downs and theirs is out in the public. I don't believe that they cheated on each other, but if they did let them deal with that. What is so wrong about wanting more for your kids than you had for yourself??? How many parents put their kids into acting and modeling to make money??? I see no know complaining about those poor kids that act and make money.... Jon & Kate's kids seem pretty OK, and adjusted to me.

Ref to kids modeling for money -- they do a few hours work and go home. The cameras are at the modeling studio, not at home 24/7. Kids aren't born with a job but Kate has stated that the kids don't know any different as they've always had cameras in their house.

The kids in fact have provided a 24 acre massive house for Kate & Jon. They are a commodity and no longer children. They've made millions but of course much of that is tied up in trusts and therefore Kate doesn't have total access for 'her' needs and will therefore keep 'horing' her kids.
